Tribal spokesman Chance Garvin says the kittens are 2-3 weeks old.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"306\" data-end=\"667\">The Colville Confederated Tribes\u2019 Fish and Wildlife (CCT F&amp;W) program announced the news this week, celebrating the culmination of years of conservation work and field research. The presence of the kittens \u2014 called w\u00e1pupxn in the Colville dialect \u2014 signals a breakthrough in the tribe\u2019s mission to re-establish a self-sustaining lynx population in the region.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"669\" data-end=\"843\">\u201cThis momentous news is the culmination of years of work by a dedicated group of biologists committed to returning w\u00e1pupxn to this area,\u201d the program shared in its statement.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"845\" data-end=\"1153\">The restoration effort began in earnest on November 2, 2021, when the first male and female lynx were released onto the Colville Reservation. Since then, biologists have used GPS collars to monitor the cats, documenting dispersal, home range development, habitat preferences, mortality, and denning behavior.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1155\" data-end=\"1306\">After nearly four years of tracking and research, their persistence has paid off \u2014 with confirmed live lynx kittens now roaming the Kettles once again.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1308\" data-end=\"1348\">\u201cWelcome home w\u00e1pupxn,\u201d the tribe wrote.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1350\" data-end=\"1623\">The Canada lynx, once native to the Kettle Range, had disappeared from the area due to habitat loss, trapping, and other pressures.
