The region is a famous ecotourism destination and Dania is part of a 200-strong population of pumas that is well-managed. Because of the many visitors to her home, Dania is remarkably calm and tolerant around humans and mainly gets on with hunting guanaco, a species closely related to the llama. <\/p>\n<p> <img src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Twiiter-screenshot-e1784031378653-800x257.jpeg\" alt=\"A tweet by @jodmercer1 reads: '&quot;these nerds are none of my concerns, it's lunch time&quot;' and shows the tweet has 6,501 views, 1 retweet, 265 likes, and was posted on July 13, 2026.\" width=\"800\" height=\"257\" class=\"size-large wp-image-863627\"   loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"low\" decoding=\"async\"\/>An amusing Twitter comment on the video.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the footage of Dania so close to the photographers prompted an angry response from some of those watching on their smartphones. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DZFwH6YREXJ\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI cannot condone this behavior. I find it totally irresponsible and disrespectful,\u201d reads the top comment, translated from Spanish, on the video above. \u201cI think there is too much encroachment on their territory,\u201d adds another voice.  <\/p>\n<p>However, one of the photographers, who was present at the scene, has hit back at the online commenters. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince we are the ones in the video\u2014and were judged by people who WERE NOT THERE and did not know how the sequence unfolded, I feel a moral and ethical obligation to clarify the situation,\u201d says photographer Belen Etchegaray. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is why we decided to share the COMPLETE, uncut sequence, which shows the puma walking toward us (rather than the other way around).\u201d <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DZU69hbuUlf\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>Etchegaray reveals that the group was contacted by the Torres del Paine municipality over the \u201clack of safe sighting protocols.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important to clarify that we followed the instructions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/fotosafaritorresdelpaine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"follow external noopener nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">trackers<\/a> at all times, remaining still on the road, and at no point did we approach the puma,\u201d she says. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know there are colleagues who choose more intrusive practices, but we always respect the distances advised by our experienced guides. We do this because we are aware that in the wild, we are the guests \u2014 but primarily because everyone who accompanied me on this trip knows that taking a photo is never more important than the subject we are photographing.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Etchegaray shared the full video, which shows Dania emerging from the bushes and nonchalantly making her way around the photographers like they\u2019re not even there. <\/p>\n<p>Torres del Paine Park is described as the premier destination in the world for photographers to capture shots of the magnificent animals, <a href=\"https:\/\/panthera.org\/blog-post\/building-support-connecting-patagonias-pumas-future-torres-del-paine-pumas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"follow external noopener nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">according to Pantera<\/a>.
