S&amp;P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures also traded near the flatline.<\/p>\n<p>Stocks climbed Tuesday after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/07\/14\/consumer-price-index-inflation-report-june-2026.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cooler-than-expected inflation report<\/a> bolstered hopes that the Federal Reserve may not need to raise interest rates as aggressively this year.<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets opened higher Wednesday, with South Korea&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kospi<\/a> advancing 6.3% at open, while the small-cap Kosdaq gained 4%. Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0and the Topix each added 0.9%.  Australia&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> was 0.6% higher.<\/p>\n<p>The consumer price index fell 0.4% in June from the prior month, bringing the annual inflation rate to 3.5%. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected a 0.2% monthly decline and annual inflation of 3.8%.<\/p>\n<p>The report prompted traders to scale back expectations for near-term Fed tightening. The probability of a rate hike at the central bank&#8217;s July meeting fell to 17% from 42% a day earlier, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmegroup.com\/markets\/interest-rates\/cme-fedwatch-tool.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">CME&#8217;s FedWatch Tool<\/a>. Markets, however, continue to price in an increase later this year, with traders assigning a 63% probability that rates will be a quarter- or half-percentage point higher following the September meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While\u00a0energy played a big role in the price deceleration, the easing was pretty broad\u00a0and\u00a0spread across a bunch of categories, a\u00a0relief to investors,&#8221; Adam Crisafulli, founder of Vital Knowledge, said in a note. &#8220;However,\u00a0the Fed and economy aren&#8217;t in the clear\u00a0\u2013\u00a0inflation is still elevated\u00a0on an\u00a0absolute basis,\u00a0oil is back on an upswing, and\u00a0AI is proving to be very inflationary at the moment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Investors will turn their attention to another busy day of earnings on Wednesday, with United Airlines, Morgan Stanley, Johnson &amp; Johnson and BlackRock set to report quarterly results.<\/p>\n<p>Earnings season has gotten off to a solid start. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and Goldman Sachs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/07\/14\/jpm-bank-of-america-citi-bank-earnings-live-updates.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">all topped analysts&#8217; expectations<\/a> when they reported results Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Traders work at the New York Stock Exchange on July 10, 2026.
