A Philadelphia man has been charged with leaving his nonverbal autistic child unattended in a car for over 45 minutes while he was shopping in Upper Darby.<\/p>\n
Amadu S. Jalloh, 24, of the 6900 block of Theodore Street was charged with endangering the welfare of a child as a parent\/ guardian.<\/p>\n
According to the criminal complaint filed by Officer Michael Clark:<\/p>\n
About 5:25 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the Fresh Grocer, 421 S. 69th St., for a report of a child left in a vehicle.<\/p>\n
Clark spoke with employees who informed him the vehicle was a white Toyota Rav-4. Police located the vehicle, which was shut off with three of four windows rolled down or cracked.<\/p>\n
The child\u2019s car seat was at the window that was rolled up.<\/p>\n
It was reported to police that the Toyota arrived at 4:44 p.m., when the operator parked and went in the store. The child was left unsupervised.<\/p>\n
At 5:21 p.m., a customer took the child out of the vehicle.<\/p>\n
The temperature at the time of the call was 84 degrees. At 5:31 p.m. Jalloh, the operator of the Toyota and father of the child, came out of the store with the police waiting.<\/p>\n
Jalloh was arraigned before District Judge Wendy B. Roberts, who release him on $40,000 unsecured bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 27 before District Judge Harry J. Karapalides.<\/p>\n
\u201cA real gem of a father who left his non-verbal autistic child unattended in a vehicle for approximately 47 minutes on an 84-degree day,\u201d said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt. \u201cWe are fortunate an observant and concerned person removed the child and brought the child into the store. Thank God the child was unharmed, and this didn\u2019t end in tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n
