{"id":936826,"date":"2026-07-15T15:29:19","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T15:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/936826\/"},"modified":"2026-07-15T15:29:19","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T15:29:19","slug":"four-litters-of-endangered-red-wolf-pups-born-in-north-carolina-wral-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/936826\/","title":{"rendered":"Four litters of endangered red wolf pups born in North Carolina :: WRAL.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four litters of red wolf pups have been born in North Carolina this year, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fws.gov\/project\/red-wolf-recovery-program\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Wolf Recovery Program<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Red wolves are a critically endangered species and are teetering on the brink of extinction. Only 22 adult wolves remain in North Carolina&#8217;s Alligator River and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuges and surrounding private lands.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s inspiring to see these underdogs making another incredible comeback,\u201d said Will Harlan, Southeast director at the Center for Biological Diversity. \u201cRed wolves are thriving in the wild, thanks to the dedication of the Fish and Wildlife Service, landowners and communities working together. These pups provide real hope for the future of red wolves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Three out of the four litters were from red wolf breeding pairs, and one litter was born on private land.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Red wolves were nearly hunted to extinction in the 1970s, and since 2020 the leading cause of death for red wolves in vehicle strikes.
