{"id":937679,"date":"2026-07-16T00:23:33","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T00:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/937679\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T00:23:33","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T00:23:33","slug":"queens-city-council-member-sued-by-girlfriend-of-brooklyn-murder-victim-for-social-media-posts-that-allegedly-sparked-online-harassment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/937679\/","title":{"rendered":"Queens City Council member sued by girlfriend of Brooklyn murder victim for social media posts that allegedly sparked online harassment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Queens City Council Member Vickie Paladino is in another legal battle over statements she made.\n<\/p>\n<p>A New York City activist is <a href=\"https:\/\/iapps.courts.state.ny.us\/nyscef\/ViewDocument?docIndex=nkp5sATPV367rE6cBAfHiA==\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">suing<\/a> the right-wing firebrand, claiming the elected official baselessly claimed she chose not to call the police when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/new-york\/brooklyn\/ryan-carson-brooklyn-murder-suspect-nypd\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">her boyfriend was murdered in 2023<\/a> because doing so would not have aligned with the activist\u2019s left-wing politics.<\/p>\n<p>Claudia Morales alleged that Paladino instigated an army of her online supporters to harass her \u2014 causing her extreme anxiety and to fear for her safety \u2014 after the council member reposted a tweet Morales made last year in support of now-Mayor Zohran Mamdani on the campaign trail. Paladino\u2019s repost came with a message suggesting Morales didn\u2019t call for help when her partner, Ryan Carson, was stabbed, instead allowing him to bleed out in front of her eyes because \u201cthe murderer was nonwhite and her politics dictate the police are the real evil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morales said that\u2019s \u201cfalse in every respect\u201d: She says she immediately called the police and, until they arrived, \u201cdesperately\u201d tried to administer first aid to Carson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Morales], herself a victim of this violent crime, immediately called 911 [and] attempted to render first aid to Ryan as he lay dying,\u201d says the suit filed late on Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court. \u201cVickie Paladino made these statements with knowledge of their falsity and\/or reckless disregard for the same, and did so to inflict harm upon [Morales] and to punish [Morales] for her exercise of protected speech and association.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paladino\u2019s office did not respond to a request for comment on the defamation suit.\n<\/p>\n<p>Legal action against and an investigation into Paladino over these statements have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brooklynpaper.com\/partner-ryan-carson-ethics-probe-paladino\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">floated before<\/a>. Last year, Morales called for an investigation into the council member and filed a cease-and-desist letter regarding the online harassment.<\/p>\n<p>Queens lawmaker\u2019s history of controversial statements<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also not the first time Paladino\u2019s online statements have landed her in hot water. <\/p>\n<p>In 2022, she received backlash for <a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/2022\/06\/paladino-doubles-down-its-not-hate-speech-to-say-drag-queens-dont-belong-in-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">saying drag queens should not be allowed in schools.<\/a> She has been condemned repeatedly for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/06\/03\/nyregion\/mamdani-deport-paladino.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">calling<\/a> for Mamdani\u2019s deportation, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityandstateny.com\/politics\/2025\/12\/paladino-slammed-islamophobic-statements\/410183\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">tweeting<\/a> that there should be an \u201cexpulsion of Muslims from Western nations.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, she was <a href=\"https:\/\/qns.com\/2026\/03\/vickie-paladino-city-council-islamophobic-tweets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">charged<\/a> with disorderly conduct by the City Council, whom she then sued, over Islamophobic posts that claimed \u201cNew York is under foreign occupation,\u201d and asked if there was \u201ca single American\u201d in Mamdani\u2019s administration in reference to the mayor appointing pro-Palestine activist Faiza Ali to head the Mayor\u2019s Office of Immigrant Affairs. Faiza was born in Brooklyn and is a U.S. citizen.<\/p>\n<p>Paladino and the City Council eventually agreed to settle the lawsuit on the condition that the lawmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/right-wing-nyc-council-member-agrees-to-delete-islamophobic-tweets-in-settlement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">delete<\/a> the offensive posts.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, Paladino\u2019s post also suggests Morales, whom she referred to as a \u201cDSA (Democratic Socialists of America) activist,\u201d intentionally impeded the criminal investigation into finding the man who shot Carson because she wanted to \u201censure the murderer walked free,\u201d which Morales also says is untrue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Morales] fully and truthfully cooperated with law enforcement at all stages, including upon that individual\u2019s identification,\u201d the suit says. \u201c[Her] cooperation was central to the prosecution of Ryan\u2019s homicide and the ultimate conviction of the person responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-137859528\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-15-at-11.39.26-AM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"526\" height=\"700\" title=\"Queens City Council member sued by girlfriend of Brooklyn murder victim for social media posts that allegedly sparked online harassment 2\"  \/>Screenshot of Paladino\u2019s initial tweet, which Morales is suing over defamation claims.<\/p>\n<p>Morales said Paladino\u2019s statements \u201cincited a wave of vile harassment, hatred, ridicule, and threats\u201d against her, including \u201cbrigading of online accounts against [her], the posting of hateful and violent imagery and content targeting [her], sexually explicit and violent messages directed at [her], and a variety of other extremely disturbing content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morales said she was left with chest pains, a racing heart, difficulty sleeping, decreased ability to be productive at work, PTSD, depression and extreme anxiety, including over \u201cbeing targeted by an elected official\u201d for harassment and about leaving her apartment as a result of the \u201csustained harassment campaign\u201d built on false statements against her.<\/p>\n<p>To make matters worse, the activist said, Paladino \u201cdoubled down\u201d on allegedly defaming her after she was told Morales had cooperated with the police through the investigation, her suit claims, refusing to retract or correct her statements, then using her office to intimidate her.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn defense of her reprehensible and defamatory statements, [Paladino] stated that [Morales] \u2018made herself a public figure,\u2019 that [Morales] \u2018is a DSA celebrity,\u2019 and that \u2018if she\u2019s going to politicize the murder of her boyfriend, then the street goes both ways,\u2019\u201d the suit reads.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Morales said she declined professional and political opportunities, including an invitation to run for office, because she was scared of continued threats, further harm, and additional retaliation against her by Paladino.<\/p>\n<p>Morales is seeking punitive monetary damages and court orders preventing Paladino from making further defamatory statements against her online.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Queens City Council Member Vickie Paladino is in another legal battle over statements she made.
