Time could be running out for the bi-annual clock changing ritual known as daylight saving time.<\/p>\n

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on Tuesday that would make daylight saving time permanent.<\/p>\n

That would bring an end to “falling back” and “springing forward” on your clocks.<\/p>\n

The bill still needs to pass the Senate, but the White House has signaled support for the change.<\/p>\n

New York state Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara, a Rotterdam Democrat, has been a longtime proponent of making the change here in New York.<\/p>\n

Santabarbara told Capital Tonight on Wednesday that the change could be an economic boon for tourism and daily activities across the Empire State.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there are a lot of benefits to doing this and there’s a big downside to keeping it the way it is\u201d argued Santabarbara.<\/p>\n

According to a 2025 Gallup poll, a majority of Americans support sunsetting the biannual time change. Santabarbara believes that support will grow now that the bill is advancing.<\/p>\n

Santabarbara says \u201cNew York is ready for it. I know a lot of other states are as well.”<\/p>\n
