{"id":939418,"date":"2026-07-16T19:00:20","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T19:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/939418\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T19:00:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T19:00:20","slug":"today-reviewing-security-protocols-after-intruder-confronts-craig-melvin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/939418\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Today&#8217; Reviewing Security Protocols After Intruder Confronts Craig Melvin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>UPDATED throughout:<\/strong> There was \u201cno altercation\u201d in the Today\u2018s Midtown Manhattan studio this morning, reps for the NBC morning show now say, though both NBC and Today are reviewing the \u201csecurity incident\u201d in which a man entered an unauthorized area to approach anchor <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/craig-melvin\/\" id=\"auto-tag_craig-melvin\" data-tag=\"craig-melvin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Craig Melvin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSecurity protocols are also being reviewed, according to a new statement from Today reps.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThere was a security incident this morning at the Today show studio,\u201d the statement reads. \u201cAn individual entered an\u00a0unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A. The person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security. The individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident. There was no altercation, and no one was injured. Today is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter. NBC and Today take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. We are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe NYPD has confirmed that officers responding to reports of a \u201cdisorderly person\u201d inside 30 Rockefeller Center took a man into custody this morning around 9:19 a.m. ET. \u201cThere were no injuries reported,\u201d the NYPD statement reads. \u201cThe investigation remains ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe intruder was taken into custody by police today after he reportedly lunged at Melvin while shouting a racial slur inside the show\u2019s Rockefeller Center headquarters. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe intruder is thought to have asked for meteorologist Al Roker first after slipping past security. The man then confronted Melvin while shouting the slur.
