\n TSMC’s first plant in Phoenix\n <\/p>\n
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.<\/a>\u00a0is investing an additional $100B in manufacturing in the U.S., bringing its total investment commitment to $265B.<\/p>\n The additional investment will mean four more\u00a0advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities, bringing the total to 12 leading-edge semiconductor and packaging facilities, according to\u00a0a release from the Department of Commerce<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n “This is to support the strong multi-year demand from our leading U.S. customers, and we believe this investment will further foster the development of the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, strengthen the supply chain, and support\u00a0significant job creation in the United States,”\u00a0TSMC Chairman and CEO\u00a0C.C. Wei said in a statement.<\/p>\n TSMC’s new facilities will join existing factories in Phoenix, according to the city’s mayor.<\/p>\n “TSMC will invest an additional $100 billion right here in Phoenix, bringing its total investment to $265 billion,” Mayor Kate Gallego posted on social media<\/a>. “It\u2019s the largest deal in US history and cements our city as the heart of America\u2019s technology manufacturing economy.”<\/p>\n Demand for microchips in the U.S. has exploded as hyperscalers, defense contractors and advanced manufacturers race to build out domestic production capacity, creating a surge of activity that\u2019s rippling through the entire industrial ecosystem.<\/p>\n TSMC’s investment in Arizona is already altering the Phoenix area<\/a>, spurring a flurry of interest from developers<\/a> in land around the factory sites and creating thousands of jobs<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n The company’s\u00a0American investment began in 2024 with\u00a0a $65B commitment<\/a>\u00a0made under former\u00a0President Joe Biden<\/a>‘s CHIPS Act<\/a>. The federal government also provided a $6.6B grant. In March 2025, under President Donald Trump<\/a>, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick<\/a> got TSMC to increase its initial investment to $165B,\u00a0according to Bloomberg<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n The majority of chip manufacturing takes place overseas<\/a>.\u00a0Tariff concerns<\/a>\u00a0and proximity to important customers have motivated TSMC’s moves.
