GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen doesn\u2019t care about physical games. <\/p>\n

With Sony announcing that it was halting the production of physical games for PlayStation starting in January 2028, discourse over what the future of the physical games media continues to be front and center. PC games went digital only years ago, while consoles were often seen as the last place for those who prefer the format. <\/p>\n

For a store like GameStop, which has long relied on physical games, it doesn\u2019t appear to be a problem for the company.<\/p>\n

GameStop has other priorities<\/p>\n

Speaking with Bloomberg<\/a>, Cohen shut down any concerns or worry that the decline of physical games will hurt the company, responding to the question, \u201cIf the hardware makers are reportedly moving to discless on the console side, future game launches are digital only, where does that fit in for the business plan?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter at all,\u201d<\/strong> Cohen said. \u201cSoftware, it mattered in the past. Software today makes up less than 12% of the business, and collectables makes up over half the business. So, it\u2019s totally, totally irrelevant.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rather than focus on the gaming side of things, Cohen\u2019s mind is set on the company\u2019s bid to purchase eBay. Though it\u2019s been rejected by eBay, Cohen doesn\u2019t appear to be giving up that fight either. He also seems to blame the mainstream media for GameStop\u2019s perception and that there\u2019s a hope the company fails.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody in the media wants GameStop to fail,\u201d Cohen said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
