John Slattery, a West Hollywood neighbor, said he experienced two separate water main breaks, the first in Silver Lake with “a river” coming into and flooding his home. <\/p>\n
“Until LA fixes it\u2019s aging infrastructure, we\u2019re going to see this more and more,” Slattery said. “And it\u2019s going to cost all of us more and more money.”<\/p>\n
Is it disrupting water service in West Hollywood?<\/p>\n
Water should be available for most LADWP customers, but those who live on higher building floors may experience low water pressure.<\/p>\n
The water is safe to drink, according to Mayor Karen Bass’ Ofice.<\/p>\n
Who’s going to pay for the damage?<\/p>\n
Those whose properties are damaged or destroyed should file claims in two places as soon as they can: 1) with insurance companies 2) LADWP.<\/p>\n
The first call should be with the insurance company or agent to find out exactly what the policy covers.<\/p>\n
“If you have the appropriate coverage, such as comprehensive for auto or for homeowners, depending on the policy you haven, you’ll have water damage coverage,” Angelica Campos, an insurance agent, told NBC Los Angeles. “Even for renters, you should have water damage coverage. But it all depends on what coverage you have on your policy.”<\/p>\n
If a vehicle carries comprehensive coverage, flood damage is typically covered, Campos said. <\/p>\n
Personal belongings may also be protected if the damage was resulted from a water main break.<\/p>\n

LADWP Claims staff will remain onsite in front of 1010 Palm Avenue, West Hollywood, CA 90069, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday to answer questions about property damage and claims. <\/p>\n

What to know about filing a claim<\/p>\n
Claimants should be prepared to provide receipts, repair estimates, photographs and documentation of their losses. Victims are urged to take as many photos and videos as possible, creating a detailed inventory of everything that was damaged.<\/p>\n
Important deadline: residents have six months to file the claim although filing a claim does not guarantee reimbursement. <\/p>\n
The LADWP said because it provides information about filing a claim, it does not mean the agency takes accountability. <\/p>\n
“It’s not an admission of liability, either,” said Blanca Herrera with the LADWP. “It is a process to determine if we are liable, and what will be reimbursed through this claim process.”<\/p>\n

When will Sunset Boulevard reopen? <\/p>\n
The LADWP said it won’t know when the West Hollywood portion of Sunset Boulevard can reopen until crews can expose the broke pipe and repair it.<\/p>\n
Before reaching the pipe, crews will have to pump out the massive amount of water: Approximately 195,000 gallons of water need to be removed before crews can assess the damage to the pipe.<\/p>\n
