Craig Melvin, the \u201cToday\u201d anchor, chased away a man who had sneaked past security at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where NBC is headquartered, on Thursday and managed to approach Mr. Melvin near the show\u2019s Studio 1A, the New York Police Department said.<\/p>\n
Mr. Melvin, who has been with the network since 2011, alerted security, and the man was arrested by the police.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was no altercation, and no one was injured,\u201d NBC said in a statement, adding, \u201cWe are reviewing the incident and our security protocols and remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for everyone who works at and visits our studios.\u201d<\/p>\n
The suspect who was apprehended, Andrew Truelove, 41, was charged with burglary, menacing, criminal trespass, all as hate crimes, and harassment, the police said in a statement. It was not immediately clear on Thursday evening whether he had a lawyer.<\/p>\n
The security breach happened right before 9 a.m., during the middle of the \u201cToday\u201d show broadcast, a department press officer said, when a man entered the lobby and headed through gold doors on the first floor and went upstairs. He encountered Mr. Melvin, who chased the man back through the lobby in an encounter that lasted eight to 10 seconds, the police said. The man was detained by Rockefeller Center security, and then arrested by a police officer \u201cwithout incident,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n
Officers were alerted to a \u201cdisorderly individual\u201d inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the Midtown Manhattan building that also includes several NBC studios, like Studio 8H, where \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d is filmed.<\/p>\n
In an Instagram post<\/a> Thursday afternoon, Mr. Melvin said he was \u201cdoing just fine\u201d and thanked \u201cso many of you\u201d for reaching out after the security incident. \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning on @todayshow.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Melvin has had a variety of roles since joining NBC. He first became a news anchor on \u201cToday\u201d in 2018, and last year was promoted to a full-time host<\/a>, replacing Hoda Kotb in one of the most prominent roles in broadcast television. He had also been a host on MSNBC.<\/p>\n He recently sat down for an interview with the former first lady, Jill Biden, about the release of her new book, during which he pressed her about the former President Joseph R.
