{"id":940396,"date":"2026-07-17T04:58:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T04:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/940396\/"},"modified":"2026-07-17T04:58:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T04:58:12","slug":"the-clemson-insider-46","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/940396\/","title":{"rendered":"The Clemson Insider"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CHARLOTTE \u2014 Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was asked on Thursday if he heard from the NCAA on the Luke Ferrelli tampering case in Day 2 of the ACC Kickoff at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swinney said he has not heard anything from the NCAA, and he does not expect to.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI did my part,\u201d he said. \u201cThe NCAA does not give us an update, so I have no idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swinney made headlines earlier this year when he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theclemsoninsider.com\/2026\/01\/23\/watch-swinney-call-out-ole-miss\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">called out Ole Miss<\/a>\u00a0for what Swinney called \u201cblatant\u201d tampering with Cal transfer linebacker Luke Ferrelli. During\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theclemsoninsider.com\/2026\/01\/23\/swinney-brings-out-receipts-on-whole-other-level-of-tampering\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his press conference on Jan. 23<\/a>, Swinney criticized Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding for allegedly luring Ferrelli into the transfer portal and influencing his flip from the Tigers to the Rebels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swinney claims that Golding texted Ferrelli directly while he was sitting in class after having already enrolled at Clemson. Ferrelli had already signed his financial aid agreement and was taking part in football activities before ultimately re-entering the portal and committing to the Rebels on Jan. 22.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/48845782\/ncaa-opened-ole-miss-tampering-probe-clemson-accusation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0report from ESPN<\/a>, the NCAA opened an investigation of the Ole Miss football program the same day that Swinney accused Golding of tampering with Ferrelli.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An NCAA associate director of enforcement emailed Ole Miss senior associate athletic director for compliance Taylor Hall on Jan. 23, according to documents obtained by ESPN\u2019s David Hale and Mark Schlabach:<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the email, the associate director requested that Golding\u2019s university-issued cell phone and personal phones be forensically imaged. The NCAA also requested the same of phones used by Ole Miss general manager Austin Thomas, inside linebackers coach Jay Shoop, outside linebackers coach Matt Kitchens, director of player personnel Jai Choudhary and senior associate athletic director for strategy\/cap management Matt McLaughlin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe NCAA also asked that Ferrelli\u2019s phones be forensically imaged and that each individual\u2019s phone records from December 2025 to January 2026 be submitted to enforcement staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ESPN cited sources saying the NCAA investigation is still \u201cin the early stages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In late March, Golding \u2013 who is entering his first full season as Ole Miss\u2019s head coach \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theclemsoninsider.com\/2026\/03\/31\/golding-reacts-to-swinneys-tampering-accusations\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reacted to Swinney\u2019s tampering accusations<\/a>, saying, \u201cThere\u2019s two sides to every story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m not going to sit up here and use the podium as a grandstand and all of that,\u201d Golding said. \u201cThat\u2019s why there is enforcement. That\u2019s why we have our compliance office.
