Car break-ins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s becoming a car break-in kind of vibe here,\u201d said Paige, who\u2019s visiting Montrose from out of town with friends. \u201cWe were just walking around last night and saw someone drive by twice slowly, like they were watching us. It felt sketchy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">They\u2019re not alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Residents told KPRC 2 they\u2019ve seen broken glass scattered across streets, suspicious activity late at night, and little police presence in areas just blocks away from busy bars and restaurants. A stretch of Crocker Street, in particular, was repeatedly mentioned by several people we interviewed.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt shouldn\u2019t be normal to come out and see glass under your car,\u201d said Diego Sanchez, who has lived in Montrose his whole life. \u201cPeople shouldn\u2019t have to worry about that\u2014especially in a place like this. It\u2019s beautiful, but that part takes away from it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Crime Numbers Support What Residents Are Saying<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to 2025 data from the Houston Police Department, the 77019 ZIP code has already logged:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>150 thefts from motor vehicles<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>46 cases of shoplifting<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>44 larcenies<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>38 reports of vandalism<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>24 burglary incidents<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Vehicle break-ins are by far the most commonly reported crime in the area this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">KB Brown, who manages several parking lots in Montrose, says she\u2019s seen it first-hand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cJust last weekend, we had four cars broken into in less than 30 minutes,\u201d Brown said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s just in one spot. I run six different lots. We clean up glass every other night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">She says one of the biggest frustrations isn\u2019t just the loss\u2014but how helpless many people feel afterward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe have people who don\u2019t even call police anymore because it takes hours,\u201d Brown added. \u201cAnd when they do come, the criminals are long gone. I\u2019ve had people tell me straight up: \u2018They won\u2019t listen to me because I\u2019m not in uniform.\u2019 But if you post someone in a uniform on the corner, everything changes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>KPRC 2 Took Those Concerns to Constable Alan Rosen<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">After hearing from residents and local workers, KPRC 2 contacted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Alan_Rosen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Alan_Rosen\/\">Constable Alan Rosen<\/a> with Harris County Precinct 1. He said he wasn\u2019t aware of the issues on Crocker Street until we brought them to his attention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of things I can do,\u201d Rosen said. \u201cWe currently have 155 undercover cameras placed around the city. We could install one here or deploy tactical patrol teams. But sometimes things get overlooked until someone brings them up\u2014so I really appreciate the community and the station for doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Rosen says he and his team are working closely with Houston Police Department to keep Montrose secure during this high-traffic weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cBetween Pride, the Beyonc\u00e9 concert, and the Astros\u2014it\u2019s going to be a huge weekend,\u201d Rosen said. \u201cWe\u2019ll have a large law enforcement presence. And I\u2019ll be very clear\u2014if someone is planning to come here with bad intentions, they\u2019re going to jail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">He urged visitors to be proactive about safety:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Don\u2019t leave valuables in plain sight<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Park in well-lit areas<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Travel in groups<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Have a plan before going out<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cGo out with friends who\u2019ve got your back,\u201d Rosen said. \u201cAnd when you park, don\u2019t be texting right away. Look around. Scan your surroundings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Residents Still Want More Visibility\u2014Not Just This Weekend<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">While Rosen\u2019s office is now looking into the issue and has promised a greater presence for the weekend, some residents say they hope this isn\u2019t just a temporary fix.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe see this year-round,\u201d KB Brown said. \u201cPride and Beyonc\u00e9 bring attention, but what happens when everyone leaves? That\u2019s why we need lights, signage, foot patrol\u2014not just for one weekend, but all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">She added that her team has already installed private cameras in her lots and is considering hiring additional guards\u2014but says law enforcement visibility makes the biggest difference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIf people see a badge, it makes them think twice,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd if you care about the community, this is when you show up.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p><b>Final Word<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Constable Rosen estimates \u201chundreds of thousands\u201d of people will pass through downtown and Montrose this weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a test for the whole city,\u201d Rosen said. \u201cBut we\u2019re ready.
