In celebration of the opening weekend of the highly anticipated sequel \u201cHappy Gilmore 2,<\/a>\u201d a competition was held on Friday to find New York City\u2019s best Adam Sandler look-alike.<\/p>\n

Jason Nagin, a lawyer from the Flatiron District who calls the original 1996 \u201cHappy Gilmore\u201d his favorite Sandler flick, emerged as the winner. He took home $50 and a bag of pickles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get told weekly that I look like Adam Sandler,\u201d Nagin told reporters at the contest held at Vesuvio Playground in SoHo. \u201cMy whole life really, but definitely in the last 20 years or so.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Nagin, he was supposed to be at work when the competition took place, but was convinced to throw his hat in the ring by his wife, who bought him an oversized T-shirt from Marshall\u2019s so he\u2019d look the part.<\/p>\n

Nagin said he\u2019s not an actor and doesn\u2019t do an Adam Sandler impersonation \u2014 at least not deliberately.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople do say not only do I look like him, but I sound like him,\u201d Nagin told reporters. He added that when he arrived at the playground for the contest, he announced \u201cAdam Sandler is here\u201d and may have fooled some attendees.<\/p>\n

\u201cI followed him my whole life and his whole career. I\u2019m a fan,\u201d Nagin said. \u201cDefinitely a fan.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sandler and Nagin haven\u2019t met, though by the sounds of it, a Knicks game might be the right place to make that happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know he\u2019s a big NBA fan and I\u2019m a big NBA fan as well,\u201d Nagin said.<\/p>\n

As for the event itself, Nagin \u2014 who belongs to a Facebook group of Sandler look-alikes \u2014 said he expected to see more people competing for the cash-and-pickle prize. About a dozen contestants participated in the 3 p.m. competition, when temperatures hovered in the mid-90s and threatened to bring severe thunderstorms<\/a>\u00a0to New York City.<\/p>\n

\u201cHappy Gilmore 2\u201d continues the story of the combative golfer Sandler brought to life nearly 30 years ago with help from Bob Barker<\/a> and Carl Weathers<\/a>, who died in 2023 and 2024 respectively. The film is currently available to stream on Netflix.<\/p>\n
