We can speculate what a person should be able to do based on an X-ray, manual muscle test, or some other metric, but movement challenges show what a person CAN do. We have to factor in neurological control, pain, skill, and even motivation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Movement challenges can be excellent indicators of fitness and independence in the long run, says <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/barbend.com\/author\/cwilkes\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Caine Wilkes<\/b><\/a>, an Olympian and certified USA weightlifting coach at BarBend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAside from a few competitive athletes, after 60, it\u2019s less about how much you can lift or how fast you can run, but about <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eatthis.com\/walking-tricks-burn-belly-fat-after-40\/\">how well you can move<\/a> so it can carry over into having a solid quality of life and longevity in your later years,\u201d he explains. \u201cMovement challenges can show how well your body performs in real-life tasks as simple as getting up, staying balanced, or handling your own <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eatthis.com\/bodyweight-exercises-build-muscle-after-50\/\">body weight<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Below, the experts share four moves that show your body\u2019s fitter than people half your age at 60.<\/p>\n<p>\tSit To Stand Test<\/p>\n<p><img xmlns=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload alignnone size-medium wp-image-768378\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"&quot;0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/chair-yoga-exercise.jpeg\" alt=\"chair yoga exercise, concept of daily chair yoga workout to shrink belly fat\" width=\"640\" height=\"469\"  \/>Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a test that determines how fast you can stand up and sit down five times without your hands,\u201d Dr. Jordre notes. \u201cHistorically, it has been linked to predicting mobility disability, and falls in older adults. It relates closely to sport performance in older athletes.
