We&#8217;re now looking at a high chance of flash flooding and tornadoes, along with the extreme likelihood of damaging wind. <\/li>\n<li class=\"what-to-know__item\">Upwards of 3 to 4 inches of rain is possible from Saturday\u2019s storms.\u00a0That could lead to flash flooding, especially in coastal and low-lying areas. Isolated higher rainfall amounts are possible. <\/li>\n<li class=\"what-to-know__item\">Overall, in terms of severe weather risk, the National Weather Service puts much of the tri-state at a level 3 on a scale of 5. Hail is also possible with this system.<\/li>\n<li class=\"what-to-know__item\">The strongest thunderstorms are projected to impact the Poconos, Catskills, and New Jersey; that&#8217;s where we see the greatest tornado and straight-line wind risk.<\/li>\n<li class=\"what-to-know__item\">Those most at risk of flooding will be in North\/Central New Jersey through Metro New York City, Long Island, and coastal Connecticut. <\/li>\n<li class=\"what-to-know__item\">The powerful storm system blows out the Canadian wildfire smoke that has choked the tri-state in recent days. A passing cold front clears the system ahead of Sunday&#8217;s World Cup final in NJ. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/weather\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">vigorous storm system<\/a> impacting much of the northeastern United States is bringing strong-to-severe thunderstorms to the New York City area from late morning through the afternoon and into the evening.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple threats are on the table, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/weather\/weather-stories\/nyc-area-faces-a-tornado-threat-this-weekend\/6526572\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">high chance of isolated tornadoes <\/a>and flash flooding.
