{"id":944112,"date":"2026-07-18T21:30:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T21:30:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/944112\/"},"modified":"2026-07-18T21:30:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T21:30:21","slug":"uiw-opens-third-site-in-mexico-with-new-campus-in-guanajuato","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/944112\/","title":{"rendered":"UIW opens third site in M\u00e9xico with new campus in Guanajuato"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">University of the Incarnate Word officials announced the expansion of its international  offerings with the addition of its third site in M\u00e9xico, this time in Le\u00f3n, Guanajuato.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The University of the Incarnate Word Le\u00f3n was officially inaugurated on July 7, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new university site is also the home of the presidential library of the former Mexican President Vicente Fox, and is meant to serve the larger metropolitan Le\u00f3n region, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.economia.gob.mx\/datamexico\/en\/profile\/geo\/leon-991103\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">home to nearly 2 million residents<\/a> and an international manufacturing hub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cInnovation is a core value here and we\u2019ve been a global entity connected to the [Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word] since really the very beginning,\u201d said UIW President Thomas Evans. \u201cBeing able to do more as an extension of what we had been doing out of Baj\u00edo, it just feels kind of natural.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As mentioned by Evans, UIW expanded its offerings to multiple locations throughout M\u00e9xico decades ago, starting with the Centro Universitario Incarnate Word established in 2003 in M\u00e9xico City, and followed by the Campus Baj\u00edo, was established in 2015 in Irapuato, Guanajuato.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This new venture will operate out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centrofox.org.mx\/en\/social-programs\/presidential-library-and-museum\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Centro Fox<\/a>, which is the only U.S.-style presidential library and museum in M\u00e9xico. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The relationship with Vicente Fox and his wife, Marta Sahag\u00fan de Fox, has been longstanding, Evans said, with her family having connections with the Sisters of Charity for generations. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"519\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1784410219_546_image003.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5447477\"  \/>UIW President Thomas Evans and former President of Mexico Vicente Fox attend the inauguration of the University of the Incarnate Word Le\u00f3n on July 7, 2026.  Credit: Courtesy \/ University of the Incarnate Word<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials agreed to a 100-year loan for use, with the library and museum remaining independently operated from the university.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cConsistent with its identity as a private, Catholic, nonprofit university, UIW does not participate in or engage in partisan political projects, initiatives, or activities,\u201d the university\u2019s announcement reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike the other M\u00e9xico sites, this location also offers a residential hall for students, with capacity to house about 70 students on site, officials said, for short or long-term programs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The economy in the Le\u00f3n metropolitan region relies heavily on manufacturing and is one of the major economic drivers in the country. The region exports of motor vehicle parts, leather goods, as well as automation and manufacturing equipment, making it a prime spot for the university to expand some of its programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe area is very well known for the automotive industry,\u201d said Marcos Fregoso, UIW\u2019s vice president for international affairs. \u201cAll the suppliers and all the big manufacturing companies of all brands are there\u2026companies from Japan, Germany, M\u00e9xico. That gives the opportunity for business students and engineering students to have direct contact with these companies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UIW officials began piloting offerings at the Centro Fox location over the last three years, starting with a High School linked to the university. About a year ago conversations expanded to this site becoming a full university site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of this fall, the new site will begin to offer short-term programs, including study abroad opportunities for UIW students as well as students from the <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/uiw-forms-education-alliance-with-new-york-chicago-and-san-juan-catholic-schools\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UIW\u2019s recently expanded CHARISM partnering institutions<\/a> across the U.S. \u2014 Dominican University in Chicago, University of Mount Saint Vincent in New York, and the Universidad del Sagrado Coraz\u00f3n in San Juan, Puerto Rico.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/UIW_UniversiryOfIncarnateWord_PrivateEducationAlliance_CatholicUniversities_CHARISM_02_12.08.2025_Am.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5423424\"  \/>Susan Burns, president of the University of Mount Saint Vincent in New York, signs a commemorative document establishing its partnership with UIW and other international universities to the Catholic Higher Education Alliance of Rising Institutions in Service and Mission (CHARISM) network on Dec. 8, 2025. Credit: Amber Esparza \/ San Antonio Report<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials said they will first expand on the programs that are already offered in M\u00e9xico City and Campus Baj\u00edo, which include continuing education offerings and micro-credentials.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are also in the process of assessing new degree programs that can be unique to this location, but require accreditation from both Mexican and U.S. accrediting agencies, Fregoso said. And will likely start with a Master\u2019s of Business Administration degree, which is already in the approval process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fregoso expects that campus to draw about 100 UIW and the CHARISM students combined next year for study abroad opportunities.
