Belichick\u2019s North Carolina Tar Heels went 4-8 (2-6 in ACC play) in the 2025 college football season, and expectations aren\u2019t much higher for year two. There\u2019s been <a href=\"https:\/\/awfulannouncing.com\/espn\/marcello-hernandez-espys-roasts-bill-belichick-tiger-woods-shane-gillis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">more talk about Belichick and his 25-year-old girlfriend<\/a> than there\u2019s been positive talk about the UNC football program since last August.<\/p>\n<p>And ESPN college football talk show host and analyst Paul Finebaum thinks Belichick is wasting his time at North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on ESPN\u2019s Get Up on Friday morning, Finebaum said that the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach ending his career like this is \u201creally embarrassing, and sad, and in many ways, pathetic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finebaum added that Belichick \u201cwon\u2019t get fired, but he should seriously consider retirement.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Paul Finebaum: \u201cEnding like [Bill Belichick] is going to end is really embarrassing, and sad, and in many ways, pathetic\u2026 He only took [the UNC] job because he was bitter that he couldn\u2019t get an NFL job\u2026 He won\u2019t get fired, but he should seriously consider retirement.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ag6eFIRHyO\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/ag6eFIRHyO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/awfulannouncing\/status\/2078197857560219778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">July 17, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Get Up host Peter Schrager asked Finebaum, \u201cWhat do you think\u2019s at stake for Belichick this year?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think his college future,\u201d Finebaum responded. \u201cNo one\u2019s taking away his six Super Bowls, But, ending like he is going to end is really embarrassing, and sad, and in many ways, pathetic, Peter. Because this didn\u2019t have to happen. He only took this job because he was bitter that he couldn\u2019t get an NFL job. He chose the wrong place. He has tried to use the magic of yesteryear, and it simply hasn\u2019t worked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll break it to everyone who\u2019s curious how many games they\u2019re going to win this year,\u201d Finebaum continued. \u201cTheir [win total over\/under] in Vegas is 4.5. Five wins would be considered a success. And that would mean another embarrassment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd yes, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GetUpESPN\/status\/2078107510871822444\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">[Heather Dinich] is right<\/a>,\u201d Finebaum added. \u201cHe won\u2019t get fired, but he should seriously consider retirement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Belichick and UNC will open the 2026 college football season against TCU in Dublin, Ireland, on August 29. It\u2019s a rematch of last season\u2019s UNC opener in Chapel Hill, when<a href=\"https:\/\/awfulannouncing.com\/college-football\/tcu-social-media-north-carolina-bill-belichick-blowout.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> TCU pummeled the Tar Heels<\/a> 48-14.<\/p>\n<p>\t<script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The first season for Bill Belichick as a college football coach didn\u2019t go well.
