He wanted R&amp;A officials to take him to the scene of his rules infraction Friday where <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/british-open-royal-birkdale-cut-scheffler-suber-0056361d011417a6ae53765105dbf949\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he theatrically protested the two-shot penalty<\/a>, creating the most surreal image of the week \u2014 and good content.<\/p>\n<p>He stayed in the mix Saturday with a 69, and after signing his card, marched over to the R&amp;A office and asked to have his scorecard from the day before, when the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/british-open-dechambeau-penalty-dc82c53d34cba028372722c4ab13f7c5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">penalty turned a 66 into a 68<\/a>. That content is property of the R&amp;A.<\/p>\n<p>The best content of all comes Sunday afternoon \u2014 that shiny, silver claret jug, the oldest trophy in golf awarded to the \u201cChampion Golfer of the Year\u201d at the British Open.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/british-open-burns-dechambeau-royal-birkdale-bb344149a9c6f3be5ff2dfb17a8fd159\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Burns had a two-shot lead<\/a> going into the final round, and even as the wind off the Irish Sea was starting to freshen, there was evidence of low scoring.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron Young went out in 29. Scottie Scheffler made three birdies \u2014 as many as he had the previous two rounds \u2014 in five holes and was three off the lead.<\/p>\n<p>Burns led by two over Ryan Fox and Si Woo Kim. DeChambeau started out four shots behind but with only five players ahead of him.<\/p>\n<p>The week already has been unusually chaotic, even by British Open standards. Branden Grace was the first player to shoot 62 in a major at Royal Birkdale in 2017. There already have been three such scores this week \u2014 Burns, Fox and Lucas Herbert \u2014 and another one was not being ruled out, although the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/majors-scoring-record-burns-herbert-british-open-fdabc100f893aebf04b8d4f86bf98a98\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">record-tying scores<\/a> all happened during morning rounds.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tommy-fleetwood-british-open-southport-birkdale-0fcbeb5feb2a2016483dd78724de58bf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tommy Fleetwood has had the time of his life<\/a> with that rare occasion of playing a major in his hometown. Starting five shots behind, he holed a 65-foot birdie putt on the opening hole that produced a cheer that resounded across Royal Birkdale.<\/p>\n<p>Burns was planning to miss the British Open this year. His wife, Carolina, was due to give birth to their second child on Tuesday before the Open (and their first child arrived a little later than expected).
