A 96-year-old Auschwitz survivor said he now hides his Star of David chain because of spiraling antisemitism in the Big Apple<\/a> as he gave Democrats a brutal history lesson about anti-Jewish hatred.<\/p>\n Jerry Wartski said the Democratic Party and the liberal Democratic Socialists of America are being infiltrated by antisemites who are fueling an environment that has Jews feeling unsafe in the streets as if it were Europe during the rise of the Third Reich.<\/p>\n Jerry Wartski, a holocaust survivor, posed for a photo in 2020. Annie Wermiel\/NY Post<\/p>\n \u201cYou have to keep your eyes open to what\u2019s going on,\u201d Wartski told The Post in a recent interview. \u201cI cover up my Star of David chain under my shirt when I walk outside now.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s the same old story,\u201d said Wartski, whose parents were killed in concentration camps during the Nazis\u2019 systemic slaughtering of Jews in the Holocaust. \u201cI close the shirt. I don\u2019t advertise. This is the `Land of the Free, Home of the Brave?’\u201d<\/p>\n Wartski said he\u2019s been growing uneasy over what he feels is a tangible change in New York<\/a> and the US, which were once safe havens for Jews who fled the Nazis and oppression in other countries.<\/p>\n A woman yells \u201cJews are eating kids\u201d during an antisemitic assault on a New York City subway in May 2026. There\u2019s nowhere else to go,\u201d he said. \u201cEurope is corroded.\u201d<\/p>\n Poland-born Wartski and an older brother survived the Nazi wipeout of two ghettos \u2014 his hometown Ozorkow and Lodz \u2014 before his family was shipped to Auschwitz, where his mother was gassed to death when he was still a child, he said.<\/p>\n Women in the barracks at Auschwitz in Poland in January 1945. Getty Images<\/p>\n Later, he was relocated to Nordhausen concentration camp in Germany, where his father died just before the American liberation.<\/p>\n Today, he has grown disillusioned with the Democratic Party because it appears to be succumbing to anti-Jewish rhetoric under what he said is a coalition of socialists, communists and radical Islamists.<\/p>\n Wartski blasted democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a>, a staunch pro-Palestinian activist and outspoken critic of Israel, as part of the problem.<\/p>\n Zohran Mamdani speaking at a Within Our Lifetime Palestine Protest in a video posted in May 2021. He doesn\u2019t hide it.\u201d Watski said. \u201cI didn\u2019t vote for him.\u201d<\/p>\n Mamdani, the city\u2019s first Muslim mayor, backs the controversial boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign against Israel<\/a>, which some view as antisemitic.<\/p>\n Wartski backs President Trump, saying he\u2019s fighting the good fight against the radical Islamists in Iran and supports Republican Bruce Blakeman for governor.<\/p>\n Wartski\u2019s mother was gassed to death when he was a child.
