“It’s Spain’s turn,” Bishop said. “They won the Euro Cup. I’ve been waiting for them for two years to win the World Cup. It’s time.”<\/p>\n
Fans also shared spirited opinions about the match and some of soccer’s biggest stars, including Lionel Messi, but many agreed the tournament’s greatest impact extended beyond the action on the field.<\/p>\n
“I feel like it’s brought everybody together,” Bishop said. “I think it’s super cool how all the cultures just come together. When one team loses, they bond with another team. It’s been super cool.”<\/p>\n
As the celebration wound down, Shoufan reflected on the month-long tournament.<\/p>\n
“It has been a great competition,” he said.<\/p>\n
Spain’s victory marks the country’s first World Cup championship since 2010. The team also set a tournament record by allowing just one goal in eight matches, the fewest goals conceded by a World Cup champion.<\/p>\n
