The biggest of them all, Marvel Studios, will return to the 6,500-seat Hall H, as will HBO with its latest superhero show and dozens of other studios with star-studded casts.<\/p>\n<p>Comic-Con\u2019s line-up since <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/coronavirus-pandemic-all-stories?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the Covid-19 pandemic<\/a> has been cyclical, with the biggest names staying away one year and then a large push the next year.Last year was marked by an era of Hollywood belt-tightening, after some gigantic box office duds and some production moving out of Los Angeles. There were still some big studio bombs this year, such as <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/lifestyle\/entertainment\/article\/3356371\/12-new-hollywood-films-watch-summer-2026-including-moana-and-odyssey?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Supergirl<\/a>, but the industry seems less likely to ignore a marketing opportunity this time around, says Heidi MacDonald, editor of the comic book news website The Beat.Why do studios pay for a Comic-Con panel?<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">MacDonald says large panels have proven they have the ability to cut through the noise of social media and other distractions to create excitement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It is hard to keep a good convention down.
