REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>He ended up with a double-bogey six on the par-4 opening hole, just as he did during Saturday\u2019s third round. <\/p>\n<p>While Rahm shot even for the third round to remain at 4-under for the tournament, he appears to have shot himself out of contention on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>After a birdie on the fifth hole, he had consecutive bogeys on the sixth and seventh holes to fall to 3-over for the round and 1-under for the tournament, sitting nine shots back of the lead through his first eight holes.<\/p>\n<p>The glove-ripping incident marks the second meltdown by a LIV Golf star at Royal Birkdale after Bryson DeChambeau went berserk after being <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/17\/sports\/bryson-dechambeau-threatens-to-pull-out-of-british-open-in-penalty-strokes-drama\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">assessed a two-stroke penalty<\/a> on Friday after it was ruled he improved his lie.<\/p>\n<p>That may prove costly as DeChambeau began Sunday at 6-under, four strokes back of Burns.<\/p>\n<p>Rahm, a two-time major champion, has not won a major since joining LIV Golf.
