{"id":947403,"date":"2026-07-20T12:20:15","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T12:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/947403\/"},"modified":"2026-07-20T12:20:15","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T12:20:15","slug":"stretch-of-i-35-near-oconnor-road-is-most-crash-prone-portion-of-highway-in-sa-data-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/947403\/","title":{"rendered":"Stretch of I-35 near O\u2019Connor Road is most crash-prone portion of highway in SA, data shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 The stretch of Interstate 35 near O\u2019Connor Road has more crashes than any other portion of the highway in San Antonio, according to Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) crash data from 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">KSAT found the data after San Antonio police said a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/07\/08\/driver-dies-after-interstate-35-crash-on-northeast-side-sapd-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">distracted driver died<\/a> on June 8 following a rear-end collision with an 18-wheeler that had stopped in traffic along that part of the highway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Hundreds of viewers commented on KSAT\u2019s social media following the crash coverage, with construction and speeding emerging as the top concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">One Instagram user described the construction zone as dangerous and said they avoid the area whenever possible. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">A crash map shows 154 crashes were reported near O\u2019Connor Road in 2025 \u2014 the highest concentration along the entire highway. I-35 near Judson Road follows closely, with 138 crashes reported in the same period.<\/p>\n<p>TxDOT crash data map. (Copyright 2026 by TxDOT &#8211; All rights reserved.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">When asked about safety concerns, TxDOT officials responded in part:<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cSafety is TxDOT\u2019s top priority, and we urge drivers to slow down and stay alert in construction zones. I-35 is one of the most traveled corridors in the state and currently includes active work zones that require motorists to pay close attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Officials added that the project team routinely inspects the corridor for potential safety improvements. TxDOT also said the I-35 Northeast Expansion Program continues to progress, and the agency appreciates the public\u2019s patience as work to improve safety and mobility moves forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">The anticipated completion date for the Central project is late 2027. The South Phase 1 project completion date is targeted for late 2028, according to TxDOT.
