And, in this new space that we have, we knew there was a real need for exhibiting artists in Fort Worth and across North Texas to have more professional spaces. So there was an opportunity for us to stand up a gallery,” said board member and artist Elena Arredondo Greer.

The 25,000-square-foot building was once the headquarters of the historic Kimbell Milling Company. It sat vacant for years and was scheduled for demolition when, in 2024, developer Bruce Conti bought it reportedly for $10, fixed it up, then offered to lease it to The Welman Project.

Now, two months later and in a full-circle moment, the art gallery is ready for its debut, too.

“It was originally built in 1935. It was the Kimball Milling Company building. So, Kay Kimball built this with the grain silos as his offices. He hung artwork here that then went on to the Kimball Art Museum when he founded the Kimball Museum years later. So this building has always been art, and we’re thrilled to have it be that again,” said Taylor Willis, who founded The Welman Project with best friend Vanessa Barker.

In another nod to history, the name Buttermilk Gallery pays homage to the spot back in the 1800s where railroad crews would stop to buy buttermilk from a nearby dairy farmer.

A nonprofit that gives teachers free classroom supplies is now doing something good for community artists who want…

[5138
5229,7371,7372,11361,39263,358,3187,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
post-947515","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-worth","tag-america","tag-fort-worth","tag-fortworth","tag-good-news","tag-something-good","tag-texas","tag-tx","tag-united-states","tag-united-states-of-america","tag-unitedstates","tag-unitedstatesofamerica","tag-us","tag-usa
["GET
