July began with severe heat, followed by poor air quality caused by wildfires.<\/p>\n<p>This past weekend, intense rain showered the city, causing road and basement flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Bader, senior staff associate at Columbia University&#8217;s Climate School, joined NY1 anchor Shannan Ferry on \u201cNews All Day\u201d to discuss the recent stretch of severe weather.<\/p>\n<p>He says climate scientists are studying the ways rising temperatures can lead to poor air quality and heavy rain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeat increases the amount of moisture that can be stored in the atmosphere,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Therefore the amount of moisture given up by plant and forest matter can be uptaken, causing drier conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tap the video player above to watch the interview.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It has been a whirlwind weather month for New Yorkers.
