Investors also looked ahead to the week in corporate earnings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Futures<\/a> tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 14 points, or less than 0.1%. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500 futures<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a> were steady.<\/p>\n<p>In regular trading, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow<\/a> dropped 307.16 points, or 0.59%, weighed down by a 2% in decline in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AAPL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple<\/a> shares. The broad market <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a> fell 0.19%, and the tech-heavy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0lost 0.05%.<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed. Japan&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a> added 0.8%, while the Topix rose 0.86%. South Korea&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kospi<\/a> advanced 0.1% while the Kosdaq declined 0.72%.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> was down 0.58%. <\/p>\n<p>Oil prices rose on Monday after President Donald Trump said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116953296612438865\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Truth Social<\/a> post that Tehran will pay for the deaths of three U.S. service members. U.S. crude futures closed up 0.9% at $83.23 a barrel, while international Brent settled 1.3% higher at $89.22. The climb in energy prices pulled the major averages lower on the day, even as semiconductor stocks clawed back some of last week&#8217;s steep losses. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/SMH\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH)<\/a> posted a modest gain, aided by Micron Technology and Advanced Micro Devices.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It looks to be a quiet week ahead for stock investors that could be dominated by technicals and geopolitical headlines,&#8221; said Callie Cox, chief market strategist at Ritholtz Wealth Management. &#8220;Sleepy summer weeks aren&#8217;t the time to draw conclusions about the world around us, but they could shake up market leadership going into a busy end of the summer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Earnings are continuing to flow in, but they may provide\u00a0more support than a catalyst to send stock prices higher given lofty expectations,&#8221; she added. &#8220;Yields are knocking at the door of recent highs across the world, giving investors a tough choice between\u00a0growth and income. This stock market is under a lot of pressure after an impressive three-month rally.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As companies issue their latest earnings results this week, traders will be hunting for details on artificial intelligence spending. They&#8217;ll also be listening on earnings calls for confirmation that executives aren&#8217;t becoming more cautious about the second half of the year.
