{"id":94883,"date":"2025-07-26T19:50:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T19:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/94883\/"},"modified":"2025-07-26T19:50:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T19:50:09","slug":"shortage-of-pain-meds-like-percocet-sparks-concern-in-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/94883\/","title":{"rendered":"Shortage of pain meds like Percocet sparks concern in Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This news must have been a hard pill to swallow.<\/p>\n<p>There is a nationwide shortage of common prescription pain medications in Canada \u2014 and it could last until early August.<\/p>\n<p>Opioids that contain\u00a0acetaminophen\u00a0with codeine or oxycodone \u2014 better known as Percocet and Tylenol No. 3 \u2014 are in short supply, according to Health Canada, the department in charge of the country\u2019s national health policy, which made the dire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/health-canada\/services\/drugs-health-products\/drug-products\/drug-shortages\/information-consumers\/supply-notices\/acetaminophen-codeine-oxycodone.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">announcement last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing disruptions and increased demand are behind the sudden scarcity, Health Canada said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re communicating with health care providers, provincial and territorial governments, and distributors to coordinate the sharing of information about this shortage,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36651481\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2020-american-academy-pediatrics-issued-108766489.jpg\" alt=\"Close-up of opioid pills spilling from a prescription bottle\" class=\"wp-image-36651481\"  \/>Canada is facing a shortage of prescription pain medication.  AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re also working with manufacturers and stakeholders to monitor the supply of acetaminophen with codeine or oxycodone and looking at options for increasing access to these products.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Pharmacists Association is limiting the amounts of pills it dispenses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsually pharmacists have to dispense the amount that is being written on the prescription unless it is being limited by the drug plan,\u201d Sadaf Faisal, senior director of professional affairs at the CPA, <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11302308\/painkillers-drug-shortage-acetaminophen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told Global News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36651482\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/pharmacist-tablet-computer-taking-inventory-108766578.jpg\" alt=\"Pharmacist taking inventory in a pharmacy using a tablet\" class=\"wp-image-36651482\"  \/>The Canadian Pharmacists Association is working to combat the issue.
