John White reported to the La Jolla Shores Association during its July 15 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>By devoting additional resources to Marine Street, Windansea Beach and La Jolla Shores, White said the department is proud to report less than 15 crimes were reported throughout the entire weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had some people that got out of line, we addressed it quickly and efficiently, and that sent the message,\u201d White told the group.<\/p>\n<p>San Diego police made two felony arrests in La Jolla that weekend, one of which was a probation violation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody in La Jolla ought to be commended too because of their patience on the July 4th weekend,\u201d he added. \u201cIt was the 250th year (so) obviously, a few more people came.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LJSA secretary and treasurer Angie Preisendorfer asked how SDPD stays ahead of crowds and illegal activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we learn and people post on social media that they\u2019re going to come to the beaches and do a takeover or something, we respond back as a San Diego Police Department and say \u2018we are aware of your party (and) we will make sure the beaches are enjoyable for all,\u2019\u201d White said. \u201cThat\u2019s what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is in line with the San Diego Police Department Northern Division\u2019s larger efforts to curb events like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2025\/05\/29\/police-break-up-large-group-of-youths-after-fights-break-out-on-la-jolla-beach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a \u201cFight Club\u201d-style melee<\/a> broke out at Marine Street during Memorial Day weekend last year. That event, which drew a crowd of 500 teenagers to the area, was tied to social media posts.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the Police Department was alerted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2026\/03\/26\/sdpd-seeks-to-prevent-fight-club-style-disturbances-at-marine-street-beach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">two events planned for Marine Street<\/a> Beach \u2014 one through a tip from a community member and the other through monitoring social media.<\/p>\n<p>Also at the Shores Associaton meeting, San Diego Fire-Rescue Lt. John Maher added Fourth of July weekend statistics from a lifeguard perspective.<\/p>\n<p>He said more than 1 million people visited San Diego beaches over Fourth of July weekend. Of that, 356,000 spent the weekend in La Jolla between Bird Rock and Black\u2019s Beach. Maher also said there were 12,000 preventative acts, 15 enforcement contacts, 41 water rescues and 16 medical aids (some of which he said were \u201cserious\u201d) in La Jolla from July 3-5.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Criminal activity was minimal the weekend of July 4, San Diego police Lt.
