DC Studios needs a bit of a pick-me-up after the box office and critical disappointment of Supergirl<\/a> and, based on this new trailer, director James Watkins\u2019 Clayface<\/a> might just be the ticket. The movie\u2019s first official trailer doesn\u2019t lean quite as heavily into the body horror of its harrowing teaser<\/a>, but it\u2019s still pretty unsettling. And yes, that haunting version of The Flaming Lips\u2019 \u201cDo You Realize??\u201d still underscores the whole thing.<\/p>\n

The film\u2019s official logline reads, \u201cMatt Hagen\u2019s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss\u2019s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self\u2026 but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on the scene in the trailer in which Matt takes a pair of cuticle scissors to some skin that\u2019s blocking his eye while on a moving airplane, it\u2019s not difficult to see why the movie has earned an R rating. We all know that\u2019s not gonna end well, right?<\/p>\n

Clayface stars Tom Rhys Harries (The Gentlemen) as Matt Hagen, Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17<\/a>) as Dr. Caitlin Corr, and Max Minghella (The Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/a>) as John Pearlman. It\u2019s directed by James Watkins from a script by horror master Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Clayface opens in theaters on October 23.<\/p>\n
