Sausalito City Manager Elaine Forbes agreed to a psychiatric review at a brief court appearance Wednesday \u2014 flashing an unhinged grin at her attorney as she faces misdemeanor charges connected to a bizarre early-morning boat incident<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Forbes, 53, agreed to a psychiatric evaluation at Marin General Hospital but did not enter a plea in the case.<\/p>\n

Forbes was flanked by her attorney Randy Knox and waved at her aunt who attended the hearing to support her.<\/p>\n

Elaine Forbes smiled at her attorney during the brief hearing. <\/p>\n

Knox requested her initial bail of $50,000 be dropped and that Forbes, who has no criminal record, be released on her own recognizance to attend the psychiatric evaluation. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s trying to get the help she needs,\u201d Knox explained in a phone call.<\/p>\n

The former leader at the Port of San Francisco wore an orange-and-white striped jumpsuit during the brief appearance, which lasted less than five minutes.<\/p>\n

Authorities claim Forbes gained access to boats that weren\u2019t hers and wreaked havoc. Obtained by the CA Post<\/p>\n

Forbes was\u00a0arrested early Saturday<\/a>\u00a0after allegedly boarding multiple vessels at the Sausalito marina \u2014including a 66-foot yacht authorities said she may have been attempting to steal, according to\u00a0ABC7<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She allegedly ransacked some of the vessels, eating food she found onboard, and scattering empty bottles of booze, one boat owner claimed.<\/p>\n

Forbes was formerly a port leader in San Francisco. sausalito.gov<\/p>\n

\u201cI came down here, police met me at the boat, and we discovered unbelievable chaos on my boat,\u201d said Andy Cunningham, owner of the Lisa Marie vessel.<\/p>\n

Forbes\u2019 family representative has said she has been experiencing a significant mental health crisis that led to the alleged behavior. <\/p>\n

She was reportedly friendly after she was discovered by law enforcement at the Marina Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

Knox said that Forbes will plead not guilty in the coming days, pending the results of the psychiatric evaluation and a review of the evidence. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clear it\u2019s not a burglary,\u201d he added, \u201cShe\u2019s not a danger to society,\u201d<\/p>\n

Forbes had only been in her job as Sausalito city manager for three weeks prior to the incident. <\/p>\n

She spent nine years as the Port of San Francisco\u2019s executive director, but left abruptly in September, saying<\/a> she was \u00a0\u201ctired\u201d of being in charge in a large city and needed to make a change.<\/p>\n
