<\/p>\nA man is accused of stealing thousands of dollars\u2019 worth of Phillies jerseys and other merchandise from Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods stores across the Philadelphia region.<\/p>\n
Matthew Ramos, 29, of Philadelphia, is charged with organized retail theft, conspiracy, receiving stolen property and other related offenses.<\/p>\n
The investigation began on May 21, 2026, at 12:20 p.m. when Upper Merion Police responded to the Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods at the King of Prussia Mall in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, for a reported theft in progress. When they arrived, they learned that a man wearing a baseball cap, white shirt and multicolored shorts stole ten pairs of North Face shorts worth a total value of $880.<\/p>\n
Another theft occurred on May 25, 2026, at 6:37 p.m. at the Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods at the Franklin Mall \u2013 aka the Franklin Mills Mall — in Philadelphia. Police said two men stole 50 Philadelphia Phillies jerseys worth a total value of $6,549.50. The men then entered a blue Toyota Scion TC and fled the area.<\/p>\n
After the theft, Philadelphia police reviewed surveillance video of the vehicle and shared it with other departments.<\/p>\n
The next day, on May 26, at 3:53 p.m., a man wearing a blue Phillies jersey, baseball cap and black pants stole Nike women\u2019s apparel from the Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods store on 500 West Germantown Pike in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. The stolen items were valued at $1,751.96, according to officials.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the man was wearing one of the Phillies jerseys that was stolen from the Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods store at the Franklin Mall the previous evening.<\/p>\n
The man entered the same blue Toyota Scion that was used in the previous theft and fled the area, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
A Plymouth Township police officer responded to the theft and spotted the blue Toyota Scion near Germantown Pike and Launfall Road. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren, but the driver didn\u2019t stop and continued at a high speed, officials said. The vehicle was last seen on I-276.<\/p>\n
The next day, on May 27, Philadelphia police learned of a theft that occurred at a Lululemon store in Delaware County. Matthew Ramos of Philadelphia was identified as the suspect in that theft, and he used the same blue Toyota Scion that was used in the thefts in Philadelphia and Plymouth Meeting, investigators said. Ramos had warrants out of Delaware and Bucks counties for retail thefts at the time, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
On May 30, shortly after 7 p.m., the blue Toyota Scion was spotted by a Philadelphia police officer, investigators said. Ramos and two other men were inside the vehicle but released pending further investigation, according to the criminal complaint. The vehicle was then towed by Philadelphia police.<\/p>\n
More than a week later, on June 8, police executed a search warrant on the Toyota Scion and found several items that were possibly related to the Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods thefts that occurred on May 21 and May 26, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
More than two weeks later, on June 23, at 5:31 p.m., two men stole 54 Phillies jerseys worth a total value of $7,073.46 from the Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods at the Franklin Mall in Philadelphia, police said. The two men \u2013 later identified by police as Ramos and 38-year-old Derek Martin of Ambler, Pennsylvania \u2013 entered a black Mercedes and an unidentified driver drove off, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Then on June 26, at 7:15 p.m., police spotted the Mercedes along the 1200 block of East Sedgely Avenue, investigators said. Ramos was arrested by police as he walked away from the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint. Two other men \u2013 including Martin and the owner of the vehicle \u2013 were inside the car, police said.<\/p>\n
In all, Ramos and his accomplices stole $16,254.92 in merchandise from the stores, officials said.<\/p>\n
Ramos was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Montgomery County Prison after failing to post bail. Investigators said he has an extensive criminal history, which includes charges of burglary, theft, robbery, aggravated assault, and retail theft. He also pleaded guilty in January of this year to misdemeanor retail theft.<\/p>\n
Online court records don\u2019t list an attorney who could speak on Ramos\u2019 behalf.<\/p>\n
Martin \u2013 who police continue to search for \u2013 has a lengthy criminal record as well, including charges of theft, burglary, retail theft, robbery, criminal trespass, and forgery, according to investigators.
