{"id":95348,"date":"2025-07-27T00:03:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T00:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/95348\/"},"modified":"2025-07-27T00:03:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T00:03:09","slug":"starfleet-academy-first-trailer-debuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/95348\/","title":{"rendered":"Starfleet Academy&#8217; First Trailer Debuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/star-trek\/\" id=\"auto-tag_star-trek\" data-tag=\"star-trek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Star Trek<\/a>: Starfleet Academy,\u201d the newest series in the nearly 60-year-old franchise, warped into San Diego <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/comic-con\/\" id=\"auto-tag_comic-con\" data-tag=\"comic-con\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comic-Con<\/a> on Saturday with an introduction of its full cast and the first trailer for the show, which will debut in early 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe series takes place in the 32nd century after the events of \u201cStar Trek: Discovery,\u201d with Starfleet relaunching the titular educational institution outside of San Francisco after the Federation\u2019s absence on Earth for more than 120 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe look at the generation now that is inheriting all of this division and all these major issues,\u201d executive producer Alex Kurtzman said on the Hall H stage. \u201cWe wanted to create a show that anchored us back to [Gene] Rodneyberry\u2019s essential vision of hope. How do you find it, how do you rebuild it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOscar-winner Holly Hunter plays Nahla Ake, the school\u2019s chancellor and the captain of the USS Athena; she greets the new class of cadets in the teaser, as it cuts to the cast exploring various parts of the campus. \u201cIt was really interesting to get the offer to be the captain, but then also to combine that with being the chancellor,\u201d Hunter said on the stage. \u201cThe captain is there to analyze in emergency situations, and then to delegate. And the chancellor is there to guide, to collaborate and to have tremendous empathy. It was just a wonderful combination of things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe teaser ends with a shot of Paul Giamatti as the season\u2019s main villain, Nus Braka, who is part-Klingon, part-Tellarite and is described in a Paramount release as \u201ca man with an ominous past connected to one of our cadets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe main cadets on the show were revealed as:<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u00a0\u2022 Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta), \u201can orphan with a troubled past, and unlikely Starfleet cadet.\u201d Rosta said that Caleb is \u201cdisillusioned\u201d with Starfleet, but his journey to find his mother brings him into Starfleet Academy due to his connection to Nahla. \u201cYou\u2019re going to be entering a Starfleet through the eyes of Caleb, who is an outsider,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u2022 Jay-Den Kraag (Karim Dian\u00e9), \u201ca Klingon cadet who dreams of becoming a medical officer.\u201d Dian\u00e9 said at first it took him five hours a day to put on the prosthetics to play the character, which was ultimately cut down to two hours by the end of the first season. He reached out to \u201cTrek\u201d alumni Michael Dorn (Worf on \u201cStar Trek: The Next Generation\u201d) and Doug Jones (Saru on \u201cDiscovery\u201d) for advice on performing with so much makeup. \u201cI just had so much support from everyone around me that made this process really seamless,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u2022 Series Acclimation Mil (Kerrice Brooks), aka Sam, \u201cthe first of her kind to ever attend Starfleet Academy.\u201d In the panel, Brooks \u2014 who was overcome with tears after seeing the trailer for the first time \u2014 explained that Sam is Kasqian, which is apparently another name for a hologram. \u201cShe was literally only created, like, weeks ago,\u201d she said. \u201cShe brings absolutely no baggage.
