{"id":955176,"date":"2026-07-24T01:11:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T01:11:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/955176\/"},"modified":"2026-07-24T01:11:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T01:11:18","slug":"first-suspected-positive-case-of-h5-bird-flu-detected-in-queensland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/955176\/","title":{"rendered":"First suspected positive case of H5 bird flu detected in Queensland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Queensland authorities say they believe a suspected positive case of H5 bird flu has been detected in the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Samples from a migratory bird found washed up on Moreton Island have been sent to a CSIRO lab for confirmation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Queensland Minister for Primary Industries Tony Perrett said a deceased petrel was found by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service staff in the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We are prepared for this, there has been constant communication federally with respect to this,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Perrett said there had been 17 positive cases detected across Australia so far, the majority of which have been in Western Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Queensland chief veterinary officer Alison Crook said it is a &#8220;similar scenario&#8221; to other cases around Australia.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A woman with white hair and glasses\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/a3d2149d001fbc4f3bca24a23ac56691.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Queensland chief veterinary officer Allison Cook said authorities have moved into &#8220;full stand-up&#8221; mode. Where else could birds carrying the virus land?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Confirmation is expected &#8220;in the coming days&#8221;, Ms Crook said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Perrett said in a statement that the risk to human health remains unchanged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It is safe to continue to eat chicken meat or eggs, and I would encourage Queenslanders to purchase these products as they normally would.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ms Crook said poultry farmers and the poultry industry had been notified and are &#8220;well prepared&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;They know what they need to do for their biosecurity and they are doing it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Invasive Speces Council policy director Dr Carol Booth said the discovery should concern &#8220;every Australian who cares about our wildlife&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Australia has invested heavily in surveillance and early detection, and that preparation is working.
