He hasn\u2019t ruled out the opportunity to make a miniseries with a project he has long pursued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cActually yeah, I have a project that, it\u2019s hard to explain, but it would lend itself to multiple episodes,\u201d he said at the \u201cBrad Bird: My Cinematic Journey\u201d panel at San Diego <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/comic-con\/\" id=\"auto-tag_comic-con\" data-tag=\"comic-con\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Comic-Con<\/a> 2026, moderated by Collider\u2019s Steven Weintraub in Hall H. \u201cIt has to do with the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/1906\/\" id=\"auto-tag_1906\" data-tag=\"1906\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1906<\/a> earthquake in San Francisco.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThis answer was prompted by Patton Oswalt via video message, in which the Ratatouille voice actor asked if a multi-episode form project was in Bird\u2019s future. Oswalt also snuck in a quick \u201cand also Ratatouille 2?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBased on James Dalessandro\u2019s 2004 historical novel about the catastrophic earthquake and fire that killed more than 3,000 people and destroyed more than 80% of San Francisco, Bird has sought to adapt the book since 2007.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s a lotta BS on the Internet about the reason it didn\u2019t happen,\u201d Bird added of the long-stewing project. \u201cThey said the budget went out of control or something like that. We never got that far.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Brad Bird teases that he has thought about \u201c1906\u201d as a TV series with eight episodes, prompted by Patron Oswalt, during his career retrospective panel at <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hashtag\/SDCC?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">#SDCC<\/a> in Hall H <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HNXWtylc08\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/HNXWtylc08<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Deadline (@DEADLINE) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DEADLINE\/status\/2080483579478618539?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">July 24, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Incredibles (2004) helmer likened the process to packing up supplies for a hot air balloon, and having to lighten the load in order for lift-off, losing his darlings in the process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThe problem with it is, the more you research that time, the more amazing it is,\u201d Bird continued. \u201cAnd the stories that are happening are insane. The deeper I dug, the more stuff I [had to include]. I was like, \u2018This has to be in it!\u2019 but it has to be big like a movie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/07\/ebenezer-trailer-johnny-depp-comic-con-1237002078\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Johnny Depp Crashes Comic-Con Hall H Panel As Scrooge To Reveal \u2018Ebenezer\u2019 Trailer: \u201cIt\u2019s Good To Be Back\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tStill very interested in exploring the story, Bird wants it to balance the \u201cdetail of successive episodes\u201d and the \u201csize of a giant movie.\u201d When asked if it could span multiple seasons or remain a limited series, Bird responded that he envisions eight episodes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe director was surprised by film score composer Michael Giacchino, whom he has worked with in The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Ray Gunn, midway through the panel. The Fantastic Four: The First Steps and Spider-Man: Brand New Day composer tried to get Bird to tease Incredibles 3 both by video message submission and right next to the director on the mic. Bird revealed no new updates besides his involvement writing the film and working with director Peter Sohn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHall H was also treated to the first seven minutes of Bird\u2019s next animated film Ray Gunn, which <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/06\/netflix-december-18-release-brad-bird-ray-gunn-1236965978\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/06\/netflix-december-18-release-brad-bird-ray-gunn-1236965978\/\">played at Annecy<\/a>.
