\n\tWith one of 2026\u2019s biggest box office breakouts under his belt, Michael Johnston<\/a> has some ideas for his next role.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Obsession<\/a> star, who is openly gay, recently explained now that he gets to \u201cchoose what I want to do,\u201d he\u2019d like to play a \u201creally meaningful\u201d and \u201creally intentional queer role\u201d in an upcoming project, which he might just write himself.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy whole thing has been that what the character\u2019s sexuality is doesn\u2019t matter to me,\u201d he noted on the I\u2019ve Never Said This Before<\/a> podcast. \u201cIt\u2019s just another part of who they are, and that\u2019s how I am. It\u2019s just a part of who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJohnston continued, \u201cBut that being said, growing up in the Bible Belt can be problematic for a gay boy. And you know, that was a whole kind of experience, and so I definitely am looking forward to playing a really intentional queer role, story that\u2019s really meaningful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing his 2015-\u201917 run as Corey Bryant on MTV\u2019s Teen Wolf, Johnston recalled he \u201cstill wasn\u2019t comfortable with my sexuality at the time, but I had no idea the impact that just being myself and playing this character authentically would have. I got thousands of messages from people thanking me and telling me how they feel better about themselves. They were able to come out to their parents.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe impact that I made just from doing something that scared me and being brave\u2026 and not only that was really cool, but also kind of helped me learn how to accept myself, so that\u2019s something I\u2019m really looking forward to,\u201d added Johnston. \u201cI don\u2019t know, maybe I\u2019ll write it myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
