JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 The State Attorney\u2019s Office of the Fourth Judicial Circuit has charged a senior living facility employee with exploitation of an aged adult after a criminal referral from the Office of Inspector General, officials said Thursday.<\/p>\n

The OIG\u2019s investigation found Annie Marie Grant, who worked at Centennial Towers \u2014 a senior living facility owned by the Jacksonville Housing Authority \u2014 received residents\u2019 rent money orders, endorsed them in her name and deposited them using a mobile deposit application, the release said.<\/p>\n

Interviews and financial records showed at least 18 money orders, totaling $6,201, were misappropriated between May 2021 and April 2022, the OIG said. Evidence included resident interviews, payment receipts, Centennial Towers ledgers and handwritten statements.<\/p>\n

Further analysis by the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office found that between May 5, 2021, and April 8, 2022, money orders totaling at least $10,625.50 were deposited into Grant\u2019s accounts and some funds were transferred to a PayPal account, the release said. Grant was arrested by JSO on June 11.<\/p>\n

JHA says Grant was terminated from her position in 2022 for theft. JHA is requesting full restitution and prison time for Grant.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Housing Authority also said it will not tolerate any form of theft by current, former employees or vendors, and will continue to investigate crimes, and seek prosecution, including but not limited to prison time.<\/p>\n

The OIG referred the matter to the State Attorney\u2019s Office based on suspected criminal violations and said it will continue efforts to ensure the city operates efficiently and transparently. The office urged the public to report fraud, waste and abuse at (904) 255-5800 or InspectorGeneral@coj.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n
