The family that owns Birrieria Cortez, a Michelin Recommended restaurant, opened a Jalisco-style seafood restaurant on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n<p>Shafkat Anowar\/The Dallas Morning News<\/p>\n<p>From the same family behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/11\/15\/birrieria-taqueria-cortez-michelin-fort-worth-recommended\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Birrieria Cortez<\/a>, which has earned a Michelin Recommendation for two consecutive years, comes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/article\/michelin-recommended-taqueria-opening-restaurant-22210952.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Mariscos Cortez<\/a>, a new restaurant specializing in Jalisco-style seafood from the western Mexican state.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The restaurant, which opened on Sunday, July 12, puts aguachiles, ceviches, seafood cocktails, tostadas and a wide variety of shrimp and fish dishes at the center of its menu. Rogelio Cortez Sr., the family patriarch, said cooking has always been one of their greatest passions, and seafood has long been one of their specialties.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the other restaurant, most of the recipes come from my wife Patricia, but here they\u2019re mostly mine and my sons\u2019. Some are family recipes, while others are dishes we\u2019ve created ourselves over the years,\u201d Cortez Sr. said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The two restaurants are located just steps from each other.\u00a0They both lie on Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway in Fort Worth, separated by Rosedale Street. In the meantime, customers are welcome to bring their own beer to enjoy with their meal. This will be possible only until the necessary permits are approved.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The story behind the Cortez family\u2019s restaurants began in 2019 after Cortez Jr. suffered a workplace accident that injured his back, preventing him from continuing his roofing job. Looking for another way to earn a living, he asked his mother to prepare menudo and birria, two dishes that were already popular among family friends, and they began selling them from their home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A year later, they purchased a food truck, which they operated throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
