LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB\/Gray Media) \u2014\u00a0An over-the-counter allergy medication sold nationwide is being recalled<\/a> for a mix-up with another medication that could potentially be life-threatening.<\/p>\n

Unique Pharmaceutical Laboratories is recalling cetirizine hydrochloride tablets, an antihistamine commonly sold as a generic version of Zyrtec.<\/p>\n

The recall was announced Saturday.<\/p>\n

According to the FDA, the recall includes bottles of 5-mg allergy tablets.<\/p>\n

The recalled medication has identifying lot numbers printed on the sides of the bottles. For a list of exact lot numbers included in this recall, visit the FDA\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The bottles may be contaminated with ranitidine, formerly known as the brand name Zantac. The medication is used to treat heartburn, ulcers and indigestion.<\/p>\n

The FDA said the problem was found by a pharmacy technician who was counting the allergy tablets. The technician noticed the wrong-colored pills in the bottles, which prompted the recall.<\/p>\n

For people with hypersensitivity to ranitidine, taking this medication could potentially cause life-threatening reactions, including anaphylaxis.<\/p>\n

To date, there have been no reports of illnesses associated with this recall.<\/p>\n

The recalled medication was sold nationwide at several retailers.<\/p>\n
