A few weeks back, the food-loving folks behind the World’s 50 Best list unveiled the back-half of this year’s 100 Best Restaurants ranking<\/a>, and two stellar New York spots out of eight North American entries managed to make the coveted lineup. Making a splash at No. 98 was C\u00e9sar<\/a>, the elegant, seafood-focused restaurant from chef C\u00e9sar Ramirez, while midtown fine-dining mainstay Le Bernardin<\/a> clocked in at\u00a0No. 90. <\/p>\n

And though those illustrious local dining rooms were joined on the full list by\u00a0only one NYC restaurant in the top 50, they’re at least in very good company:\u00a0“New Korean” stunner\u00a0Atomix<\/a>\u00a0was ranked No. 12 in this year’s culinary pecking order, which were announced during a ceremony in Turin, Italy on June 19.<\/p>\n

It’s not the first time that the creative Korean spot\u2014the flagship restaurant of husband-and-wife duo, chef\u00a0Junghyun “JP” Park and manager\u00a0Ellia Park, who also oversee fellow New York spots including Atoboy<\/a>, Naro and Seoul Salon\u2014has been honored by World’s 50 Best:\u00a0In 2023,\u00a0Atomic came in at No. 8\u00a0and rose to No. 6 one year later. <\/p>\n

Praised as the “ultimate gastronomic manifestation of the K-wave phenomenon” and “Korean dining at its very finest” with “dishes grounded in heritage, but distinct and innovative,” per the World’s 50 Best organizers, Atomix is the\u00a0sole U.S. restaurant to make the main 50 Best list, and one of only three North American entries this year.\u00a0(It’s joined by\u00a0Jorge Vallejo\u2019s boundary-pushing Quintonil and Elena Reygadas’s Mexican-meets-Mediterranean beaut Rosetta, both located in Mexico City.)<\/p>\n

Elsewhere on the list, Lima had an exceptionally strong showing, with Maido from\u00a0chef Mitsuharu “Micha” Tsumura\u2014an upmarket Japanese-Peruvian restaurant serving an innovative take on Nikkei cuisine\u2014finally claiming the top spot after a decade of being featured on the World’s 50 Best list. Rounding out the top five was second-place finisher\u00a0Asador Etxebarri of\u00a0Atxondo, Spain; Diverxo of Madrid, Spain in the fourth-place spot; and\u00a0Alchemist of Copenhagen, Denmark at No. 5.<\/p>\n
