The caller described the suspect as a Black woman wearing a pink shirt, possible gray shorts and no shoes. The 911 call was classified as a Priority 1 response after the call taker heard at least one gunshot in the background.

Officers searching the area spotted a woman matching the description and attempted to contact her. Police said the woman ran from officers on foot and ignored repeated commands to stop.

During the chase, one officer saw the woman reach inside the purse she was carrying and believed she was reaching for a weapon, police said. Officials say the officer fired one shot but did not hit her.

The woman, later identified as 34-year-old Leandra Johnson, fell to the ground and was taken into custody. After detaining Johnson, police say they didn’t find a gun on her or in her purse. No one was injured, and no property was struck by the gunfire, according to police.

Detectives with the department’s Major Case Unit investigated the scene and interviewed witnesses, who confirmed Johnson as the suspect and told investigators the firearm used earlier was silver.

Police later executed a search warrant at Johnson’s home, where detectives found an empty gun box and ammunition matching a spent shell casing recovered from the scene. The gun box contained paperwork indicating the missing handgun was silver and black, investigators said.

Detectives also learned several family members were inside the home when the officer fired. Police said multiple people moved in and out of the residence before investigators could fully secure the scene. Despite an extensive search of the home and surrounding area, detectives were unable to locate the gun.

Johnson was arrested on a charge of evading arrest or detention. Investigators later obtained an additional warrant charging her with discharging a firearm; she is currently in the City of Fort Worth jail.

The officer who fired his weapon is a two-year veteran assigned to South Patrol and has not previously been involved in a critical police incident, according to the department.

The Fort Worth Police Department’s Major Case Unit continues to investigate the shooting.

Watch the full Fort Worth Police bodycam video below:

Fort Worth police have released new details about an officer-involved shooting in South Fort Worth that ended without…

[5138
5229,7371,26564,7372,385267,358,3187,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
post-957744","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-worth","tag-america","tag-fort-worth","tag-fort-worth-police","tag-fortworth","tag-leandra-johnson","tag-texas","tag-tx","tag-united-states","tag-united-states-of-america","tag-unitedstates","tag-unitedstatesofamerica","tag-us","tag-usa
["GET
