\n\tThe writing process has just begun for the second season of Apple TV<\/a>\u2018s latest hit series Widow\u2019s Bay<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tShow creator Katie Dippold<\/a> participated in Collider\u2019s Showrunners on Showrunning panel at San Diego Comic-Con<\/a> on Friday, where she opened up about the project\u2019s startling success<\/a>. Starring Matthew Rhys<\/a> as the mayor of a New England island that the residents are convinced is haunted, Widow\u2019s Bay quickly became one of television\u2019s buzziest shows after its April launch and went on to land a whopping 19 Emmy Award nominations<\/a>, including best comedy series.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt took a long time,\u201d Dippold said about how soon she got a sense that the show had picked up as many fans as it did. She joked that she remains \u201cterrified\u201d of Reddit but eventually took enough of a look on the social media platform to see that the amount of discussion about Widow\u2019s Bay was increasing wildly. \u201cSeeing that was really shocking.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe writer, also known for her work on such features as The Heat and Snatched, explained that she did not know that the series had been renewed for a second season<\/a> until just before the news went public. \u201cBut I was still always hoping and thinking about it,\u201d she continued, pointing out that the writers room for season two started earlier this week. \u201cIt\u2019s a great room, and then we\u2019re going to be writing for the next 20 weeks.\u201d Dippold noted that her goal is to begin filming next year for the show that also stars Kate O\u2019Flynn, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, Kingston Rumi Southwick and Stephen Root. <\/p>\n

\n\tAs for lessons from the initial season that the first-time showrunner plans to incorporate for the second one, Dippold said, \u201cI learned pretty quickly in making it.\u201d Dippold pointed out that she felt that the comedy worked because the actors played things straight and dramatic: \u201cThroughout the process, it was making sure everything served that, and so that\u2019s top of mind going into season two. Also, the scripts were longer and pretty dense. I had to make last-minute cuts for time, so I\u2019ll just be more mindful of that because we didn\u2019t need that much.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe added, \u201cIn the edit, I just could see, \u2018Oh, you actually didn\u2019t need any of this stuff anyway.\u2019 I learned a lot about what you don\u2019t need and getting to things quicker.\u201d <\/p>\n
