SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 An 8-year-old boy has died after he was accidentally shot in the neck<\/a> on the Southeast Side.<\/p>\n

The Bexar County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office and a family member confirmed Saturday that Daniel Casares had died from his injuries.<\/p>\n

The medical examiner\u2019s office has not yet ruled on a cause or manner of death.<\/p>\n

Officers responded to the shooting around 4:30 p.m. Friday in the 3500 block of Bob Billa Street, not far from East Southcross Boulevard and Pecan Valley Drive.<\/p>\n

According to a Saturday San Antonio Police Department preliminary report, four juveniles were detained.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival, officers found Casares inside the home with a gunshot wound. <\/p>\n

In the preliminary report, San Antonio police said a 13-year-old is suspected of handling the gun when it accidentally went off. <\/p>\n

Initially, SAPD said Casares and three other juveniles were handling the gun.<\/p>\n

A family member told KSAT on Saturday that there were actually six children inside the home at the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n

Casares was shot once in the neck, police said.<\/p>\n

No parents or guardians were at the home when the shooting occurred, police said, and it\u2019s unknown if the children were playing with the gun.<\/p>\n

Additional information was not immediately available.<\/p>\n
