{"id":959591,"date":"2026-07-26T03:04:59","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T03:04:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/959591\/"},"modified":"2026-07-26T03:04:59","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T03:04:59","slug":"while-doj-touted-jersey-city-boe-settlement-over-mcnair-quotas-vote-set-for-aug","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/959591\/","title":{"rendered":"While DOJ touted Jersey City BOE settlement over McNair quotas, vote set for Aug."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) touted a settlement with the Jersey City Board of Education (BOE) on July 10th, the school board is not set to vote on the terms until the end of next month.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/McNair-High-School-e1784920110718.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-102865\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/McNair-High-School-e1784920110718.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"354\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By John Heinis\/Hudson County View<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease be advised that the agreement has yet to be presented to the elected members of the Jersey City Board of Education for review and a vote. Until such a time as that occurs any documents that may exist are considered advisory, consultation and\/or deliberative,\u201d the school board said in response to an Open Public Records Act (OPRA) request.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs such, pursuant to N. J. S. A. 47:1A-1.1 (1) the document is exempt from release. Consequently, no documents will be released at this time. It is anticipated that the agreement will be presented to the district Board of Education for consideration at the August 27, 2026 meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ did not return an email seeking comment on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, the DOJ\u2019s Civil Rights Division said that had reached <a href=\"https:\/\/hudsoncountyview.com\/justice-dept-jersey-city-boe-settlement-ends-discrimination-at-mcnair-high-school\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a voluntary settlement<\/a> with the Jersey City BOE over \u201crace and national origin discrimination\u201d in student admissions at McNair Academic High School.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuota systems that define students by their race or national origin have been illegal since the 1970s,\u201d Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K.
