A 17-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter after he allegedly collided with a woman while riding an electric motorbike in suburban Perth.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police say they observed an unregistered, off-road electric motorbike being ridden erratically about 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon in the Woodvale area, in Perth’s northern suburbs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It is alleged that a short time later, the motorcycle was involved in a collision with a 59-year-old woman at a park in the neighbouring suburb of Edgewater.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to the scene and the woman was taken to Joondalup hospital with critical injuries, but she died overnight.<\/p>\n

The teenager has been charged with manslaughter, having no authority to drive and using an unlicensed vehicle on a road.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He was due to appear in Perth Children’s Court on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Major Crash investigators are appealing for witnesses to contact CrimeStoppers.<\/p>\n
They would like to hear from anyone who has dash-cam or mobile phone vision that captured the electric motorbike travelling throughout Woodvale and Edgewater prior to the crash, including pathways adjacent to Lake Joondalup.<\/p>\n

Detective Sergeant Ollie Edwards said the incident was still being investigated.<\/p>\n
He said the teenager was not being pursued by police at the time of the incident but police had earlier tried to intercept the rider.<\/p>\n
“Our strategy was to monitor from a distance,” he said.<\/p>\n

“There were a number of people in the park at the time of the incident who have observed what happened to her,” he said.<\/p>\n
“They’re being spoken to today.”<\/p>\n
Detective Sergeant Edwards urged people who use e-rideables to take care.<\/p>\n
“I do encourage all people who are using e-rideables to ride in a manner consistent with the laws,” he said.<\/p>\n
Detective Sergeant Edwards described the motorbike as “high-powered” but could not confirm whether it had been modified in any way.<\/p>\n
He said police would be analysing the vehicle to see if it was compliant with standards for e-rideables, and said police could not confirm what speed the bike reached prior to the incident.<\/p>\n
