Marvel Studios may have just broken the internet with the announcement Saturday that Ryan Gosling is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Johnny Blaze \/ Ghost Rider, with a stand-alone movie set to hit theaters in 2028. Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige made the announcement Saturday afternoon during Marvel\u2019s massive Hall H presentation, where he also introduced Gosling and the film\u2019s director, Shawn Levy (\u201cDeadpool & Wolverine\u201d).<\/p>\n
Besides the Ryan Gosling announcement, Marvel fans definitely hit the jackpot Saturday when some of Hollywood\u2019s biggest stars came onstage in Hall H as part of the studio\u2019s massive presentation. The stage was packed with heroes and heroines from the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Iron Man, Mister Fantastic and Captain America, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans, respectively. Other familiar faces on stage: Winston Duke, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, Danny Ramirez, Simu Liu, Anthony Mackie, Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Hayley Atwell, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, Tenoch Huerta, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden.<\/p>\n \u201cMatchbox: The Movie\u201d brought out its biggest stars Saturday for a press event at Hilton San Diego Bayfront at noon before herding the cast to the San Diego Convention Center for Apple TV+\u2019s first-ever panel in Hall H, which for a few days literally is the center of the pop-culture universe. The upcoming action comedy \u2014 directed by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall \u2014 is based on the Mattel toy brand Matchbox. Starring Biel, John Cena, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro and Teyonah Parris, the film is expected to be released Oct. 6.<\/p>\n Not too far from Biel was \u201cMatchbox: The Movie\u201d star John Cena, who plays the film\u2019s lead character, Sean. He\u2019s an ex-soldier who reconnects with childhood friends before he\u2019s kidnapped. Cena walked the red carpet with his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh. Earlier in the week, Cena was spotted checking out the sights and sounds of the Gaslamp Quarter right outside the convention center.<\/p>\n Actor Jerry O\u2019Connell, the voice of Commander Jack Ransom on the animated series \u201cStar Trek: Lower Decks\u201d appeared in Hall H as part of Paramount+\u2019s huge \u201cStar Trek\u201d extravaganza, where other stars from throughout the franchise reminisced about the show and its historic 60-year anniversary.<\/p>\n Veteran actor Tim Robbins appeared on the red carpet as part of the media blitz for \u201cSilo,\u201d the dystopian drama that\u2019s now in its third season. The Academy Award-winning Robbins \u2014 who won the best supporting actor Oscar in 2004 for \u201cMystic River\u201d \u2014 portrays Bernard Holland, the stern head of the IT department in the Silo.<\/p>\n Besides Robbins, the \u201cSilo\u201d contingent was definitely brimming with A-listers. Check out Common, who walked the red carpet with co-star Alexandria Riley. They play power couple Camille and Robert Sims in the Apple TV+ drama. On Thursday, Common surprised fans with a performance at The Silo Experience activation outside the convention center. \u201cThank the Founders,\u201d Apple TV touted on its Instagram account on Saturday, a sly reference to the mysterious group of leaders and scientists known as The Founders.<\/p>\n Jack Reacher came ready for his close-up Saturday, stopping by the Associated Press photo booth for some portraits. Actor Alan Ritchson, who will be back Aug. 12 as Jack Reacher on Prime Video\u2019s \u201cReacher,\u201d was at Comic-Con to promote the series\u2019 fourth season as well as its spinoff, \u201cNeagley,\u201d set for a Sept. 16 launch, also on Prime Video.<\/p>\n High-wattage Hollywood star Jennifer Connelly dropped by the Apple TV+ red carpet as part of the \u201cDark Matter\u201d junket. The sci-fi series\u2019 second season premieres Aug. 28. The Academy Award-winning actress \u2014 who took home the best supporting actress trophy for 2001\u2019s \u201cA Beautiful Mind\u201d \u2014 portrays Daniela in \u201cDark Matter.\u201d Since 2015, she has been an ambassador for the French fashion house Louis Vuitton, and based on the classic look she brought to the red carpet Saturday, Connelly may have been wearing an LV original.<\/p>\n Emmy winner Jeff Hiller \u2014 winner of the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series award last year for \u201cSomebody Somewhere\u201d \u2014 joined fellow castmates at Comic-Con for \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay,\u201d the original comedy horror series led by Matthew Rhys.<\/p>\n \u201cStar Trek\u201d was the focus of a panel Saturday, and stars from the series\u2019 various incarnations came out en masse, including Michelle Hurd (\u201cStar Trek: Picard\u201d) and none other than Sulu himself \u2014 George Takei, one of the most well-known faces of the \u201cStar Trek\u201d franchise. The fourth season of \u201cStar Trek: Strange New Worlds\u201d premiered this week on Paramount+.<\/p>\n The 18-year-old actor Kingston Rumi Southwick \u2014 Evan Loftis in the Apple TV+ comedy-horror series \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d \u2014 walked the red carpet as part of the streaming network\u2019s media blitz Saturday.
