{"id":959825,"date":"2026-07-26T05:58:27","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T05:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/959825\/"},"modified":"2026-07-26T05:58:27","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T05:58:27","slug":"jewish-uws-stabbing-victim-fled-nyc-for-florida-over-rampant-antisemitism-sources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/959825\/","title":{"rendered":"Jewish UWS stabbing victim fled NYC for Florida over rampant antisemitism: sources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jewish man stabbed by a<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/25\/us-news\/karl-marx-writings-found-in-upper-west-side-stabbing-suspects-apartment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u00a0maniac repeatedly yelling \u201cAllahu Akbar\u201d\u00a0<\/a>on the Upper West Side recently moved from NYC to Florida \u2014 reportedly in part because of Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s anti-Israel stance and lackluster handling of rampant antisemitism in the Big Apple.<\/p>\n<p>Moshe Yezhak Grunhaus, 50, who was allegedly stabbed in the chest by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/24\/us-news\/madman-eyed-in-nyc-attacks-was-lonely-but-super-cordial-neighbors-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">screwdriver-wielding madman Raul Morales on Thursday<\/a>\u00a0when he walked out of a synagogue at Amsterdam Avenue and West 86th Street, recently ditched NYC for Surfside, near Miami.<\/p>\n<p>He was back in Gotham for a few days this week to clean out his apartment, a source said.<\/p>\n<p>At least part of his decision to say goodbye to the city for good was partially over frustrations with Mamdani,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/news\/u-s-news\/jewish-stabbing-victim-named-especially-frustrating-since-moshe-grunhaus-was-in-process-of-leaving-manhattan-to-move-to-florida-sources-say\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">a source told JNS.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Moshe Grunhaus was stabbed on Thursday.  Facebook \/ Lidia Lander<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Zohran Mamdani has taken an openly anti-Israeli stance.  via REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Neighbors on Saturday told The Post they understood why Grunhaus, who is religious and a passionate supporter if the Jewish state, would leave NYC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes sense, honestly,\u201d a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous told The Post Saturday. \u201cI mean, given the hatred that is being spoken by our mayor about towards the Jewish community, he\u2019s not welcoming. He\u2019s not encouraging people to be proud of their Judaism here, and it\u2019s very obvious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The neighbor continued: \u201cI mean, we all know what he was screaming when he attacked those people. He said, \u2018Allahu Akbar So, like, are you kidding me?<\/p>\n<p>Raul Morales was arrested after the attacks and arraigned on Friday.  ZUMAPRESS.com<\/p>\n<p>Added another: \u201cI think the mayor is definitely aggravating the negative side of it. He\u2019s saying things that he doesn\u2019t have the authority to say. Like he wants to arrest the Prime Minister of Israel. \u201cPeople who wear kippahs definitely have to be more cautious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grunhaus\u2019 recent Facebook posts focus on rampant antisemitism in Gotham, often tagging Mamdani while re-posting people\u2019s stories of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/24\/us-news\/nyc-jewish-leaders-blast-mamdani-after-upper-west-side-stabbings-call-for-hate-crime-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">anti-Jewish-hatred they\u2019ve experienced.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope your kids die,\u201d a June 28 re-post from the Israeli Consulate read, telling the story of a Jewish man who was confronted by a stranger in NYC.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s what a stranger said to Rami Feinstein and his family in broad daylight in New York. Not online. Not anonymously. In the middle of a New York street. This is what antisemitism looks like when hatred becomes acceptable, normalized and ignored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other posts mourn the 1,200 Israelis slaughtered by Hamas in the Oct. 7, 2023 terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Grunahus often posts about antisemitism and advocates for freedom of Israeli hostages on Facebook.  Moshe Grunhaus\/Facebook<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStanding here @ Mount Herzl Cemetery 2 years after the October 7th massacre (Hebrew calendar, day after but first day of funerals for the nation),\u201d Grunhaus wrote in October 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommemorating our heroes who were the first of many to sacrifice their lives to protect our nation. Never Again!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In another post a month later, Grunhaus posted the photos of two Israeli hostages in Hamas captivity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani told The Post at an unrelated event in The Bronx: \u201cThere\u2019s no tolerance for bigotry, and we know that while Jewish New Yorkers constitute a minority in this city, they continue to comprise a majority of the victims of all hate crimes across the five boroughs\u2014and that is unacceptable.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is work that we must do to uproot antisemitism out of the five boroughs, and that includes by making it clear that there\u2019s no tolerance for it, and that this is a city that will not only look to keep Jewish New Yorkers safe, we also look to celebrate and cherish Jews New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jewish New Yorkers are not convinced.<\/p>\n<p>Grunhaus posted about an October 7 memorial service.  Moshe Grunhaus\/Facebook<\/p>\n<p>A rally organized by the group End Jew Hatred is planned for Sunday at 10 a.m. at 509 Amsterdam to \u201cunite against hate on the Upper West Side\u201d \u2014 and call out Mamdani.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlood is on Mamdani\u2019s hands,\u201d a flyer for the rally posted to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheJewishAlly\/status\/2080715648875864193?s=20\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">X reads<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jews who live in NYC \u201care on edge,\u201d said Yitz Landes, 37, professor at the Jewish Theology Seminary of America.<\/p>\n<p>His mother lives in the building next door to Grunhaus\u2019 apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Like Grunhaus, Landes said he \u201calways wear a kippa in the city. I would feel weird not to. I don\u2019t want to give up wearing it publicly, and I hope I can continue to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morales, an ex-con who minutes before allegedly attacking Grunhaus allegedly stabbed 57-year-old Chok Sung a few blocks away,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/25\/us-news\/nyc-uws-suspected-stabber-raul-morales-mother-cries-out-in-court-after-allahu-akbar-rampage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">was arraigned<\/a>\u00a0on two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and one count of attempted assault \u2014 all of which are being tried as hate crimes.<\/p>\n<p>The judge also ordered Morales to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. He is due back in court on July 30.<\/p>\n<p>Both victims are stable.
