And it’ll be that way for several more weekends and overnights as well. So, for there to be delays, of course, for the rest of the summer, that’s a problem for me,” Mark Odom added. “I’m supposed to be making money, not waiting on transit all day.”

Starting this week, there will be major service changes on weeknights and weekends on the 1, 2 and 3 lines!

We’re replacing tracks, as well as performing structural maintenance, inspections, and electrical and mechanical work.

Read all of the details: https://t.co/TNnVIXCqam

— MTA (@MTA) July 22, 2026

Uptown, reactions from riders on day one were pretty split.

“My travels were easy today,” said Matthew from Harlem. “I just happened to be on time or catch the shuttle bus.”

Shuttle buses are helping to ease the pain for riders losing access to their subways during summer weekends (Image: NBC New York)

“I just think for me, it’s like a little bit unfair because we keep, you know, paying our fares and they keep raising them up,” added Davey Rivera of Harlem. “And then, some of the services — it’s not good.”

But Linda Dickens of Harlem pointed out, “there’s so many other things that happen in this city that are ridiculously inconvenient.
