Football, I always like the gloves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith got his first game-used sticks as a kid. Naturally, the Massachusetts native\u2019s first was Boston Bruins legend Patrice Bergeron\u2019s. He also got an Alex DeBrincat from the Winter Classic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a little thing I just like,\u201d Smith said, \u201cand something that would be cool to have when I\u2019m older.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now in the NHL, the young San Jose Sharks\u2019 star accumulated an impressive game-used stick collection in his rookie season.<\/p>\n<p>In early March, Auston Matthews gave <a href=\"https:\/\/sanjosehockeynow.com\/sjhn-daily-matthews-gives-smith-stick-leafs-looking-at-kunin-sturm-dellandrea-drawing-interest\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Will Smith<\/a> a stick. About a week later, Smith acquired the pi\u00e8ce de resistance of the 2024-25 season, all-time goals record-holder Alex Ovechkin\u2019s stick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019ll make a good stick collection room,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s not Smith\u2019s most-treasured piece.<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, before the Boston College star signed with the San Jose Sharks, he was on Team USA\u2019s World Championships side with the late Johnny Gaudreau. Smith was too starstruck to ask his fellow Eagle alumni for his stick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pretty good friends with Kevin Hayes. I was nervous to ask Johnny when we were there,\u201d Smith smiled. \u201cI was like, hey, do you think he\u2019d give me one? Of course, he did. It\u2019s my favorite one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s next for the San Jose Sharks wunderkind? Not on the ice\u2026but for his burgeoning collection?<\/p>\n<p>Smith is hoping to acquire Sidney Crosby and idol Patrick Kane\u2019s sticks. He\u2019s also looking for a Leon Draisaitl.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the funky sticks.
